4.3 jailbreak is not out yet. so you'll have to wait.

remember, never update the newest firmware. i am at 4.2.1 jailbroken, and don't plan to update until there is a firm jailbreak method for at least a few days (so they iron out all the bugs, there will be bugs)

I found this site helpful in locating the correct jailbreak solution, but it does appear that anyone upgrading to latest firmwares on release do increase the risk that their iphone may become unjailbreakable in future:

Never upgrade your jailbroke iphone unless the folowing 2 items are ticked

    1) You know for 100% sure there is a jailbeak (google is your friend here)
    2) You really have to (ie new features)

Oki doke.. Sounds like Ill just have to sit tight and wait for a jailbreak to come out.

As a side note, once it is jailbroken will itunes backups still work? If not, how do you all back up?

And when there is os updates, do they install same as usual? Do you just jailbreak it again after and all your cydia apps are there?

    Cheers

Itunes backup kind of works, I have seen a bricked iphone not allow a backup after it was unbricked probably because it was downgraded to a lower firmware, I would say don't count on backup working, particularly if they are made under different firmwares, but it might.

I believe in itunes you can disable whether firmware updates are automatic or not. If you have autoupdates on itunes will attempt to update your iphone to the latest firmware everytime you plug it in and you will have to jailbreak again. I actually have never updated my ipod touch since i first jailbreaked it so I do not know whether Cydia apps persist after a firmware update or not.

Hey, may be a bit late but are we allowed to discuss jailbreaking iphones here or does this fall under the 'console modifications' rule?

if android rooting can be discussed openly, so sould iphone jailbreak.

Crydia app doesn't persist after firmware update. you'll just have to write down a list of Cydia apps and re-download them.

Well in other BT forums (marketplace) you can't discuss things which are outside of the EULA (EG WOW sales), but I'm sure I've seen a mod say that talking about jailbreaking was okay as it wasn't illegal.

I think it's all a bit fuzzy-wuzzy depending on what mod sees the posts and whether they have jailbroken themselves ;)

I really don't know anything about this jailbreaking... but did you try google? haha jk. not really.

    I found this on google.

I researched this because I wanted to chime in on the console rooting thing. Did you hear that they are shutting down rooted PS3s' access to the PS3 network? That's pretty crazy . . . I guess the US judge allowed them to subpoena all the IP addresses that had visited some popular rooting website for the PS3 . . . did that effect everyone in the UK too?

    Wasnt aware of that!

    Anyone know if that works?

I have been told that AT&T in the States have been able to identify if jailbreakers are tethering and have threatened to start charging them if they persist! Outrage!

Yeah, they were granted permission to get the ip's of everyone that visited the Geohotz site. And they are only banning the ps3's that were jailbroken, which is fair enough. By jailbreaking it you break their terms so they have every right to ban the console.

Pwnage tools does work, but it is a mac only application and is a tethered jailbreak (i.e you have to re-jailbreak to get it to turn back on if you turn it off).

And I heard about the AT&T thing too. The Smartphone boom has put a massive strain on the mobile companies data networks so they have to get the money to increase capacity from somewhere I suppose. Those who have been found to be using MyWi have received this email/text

well there is a jailbreak for 4.3 but it is teathered and therefore kinda pointless to use. there is also a company selling a silly sim card clone that will do it
