This, from the BBC... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/4626517.stm The only way I think mobile companies will learn, is if crazy frog is made a bigt thing of, and KILLED. Banned, and outlawed. That way they will learn!
i wounder if itv news will ever report this, as they (jamster) have been advertising on their channel now :S
All the adverts I have seen have small print at the bottom of the screen explaining this. You need to text a certain word to a certain number to unsubscribe. I don't think it should be legal because it's obviously targeted at naive kids (and morons) who don't know any better. But still, read the small print before you sign up to something. Now pay your bills, and stop funding this sort of crap in the future because we all suffer. No sympathy here.
I'm sorry I'm not from the UK but what in the world is jamster ... some frog or something which does waht ...
Jamster has ads in the US also, and they suck. The commercial comes on and tells you to text specific words to a number, but what they don't tell you (it's in the fine print) is that you are now subscribed to their service (meaning they charge you monthly). Bunch of assholes if ya ask me, seeing as how they are preying on the fact that little kids who don't know any better think "HEY! I want the new Dr. Dre polyphonic ringtone! This is awesome!" and then they are subscribed until they learn how-to unsubscribe.
I agree with mushky 100%. If you were dumb enough not to bother reading the small print before signing up to the 'service' then more fool you. However I think the predatory way it was targeted at the young and the stupid shouldn't really be allowed.
Their adverts are bombarding the UKs TV stations. They should be sued because in MINUTE lettering they say about the subscription, you really have to look hard to see it, especially if you have a small TV. They say you have to be 16+ to order their tones/products, yet their ringtones are clearly aimed at youngsters who are innocently signing up to this rip-off.
wtf? Moaning about the small print being small? It's always been like that. TV is just another medium, it isn't a new set of rules. n00bs
Completely agree with mushky comments. You shouldn't need to make laws for stupid people anyway, just always read terms & conditions before buying anything. I do not think though, it is appropriate to have terms & conditions so many pages long, that you end up accepting them, rather than speding 3 days reading them. This is an area that should be looked into more in the future. (Just going off on one )
have you seen the treads around here saying crazy frog must die and others of such nature. expressing descust for dodgy ringtones. jamster is teh company behind the marketing scam that is overpriced ringtones. and the most annoying one started out life as this. http://www.funnyjunk.com/pages/insanity_test.htm the insanity test. then some muppet from jamster decided to put this thing on it more is explained here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crazy_Frog oh and on a more annoying note it beat coldplay to the number 1 spot in the uk top 40 and i was in a nightclub the otehr night and i heard this http://www.fetchfido.co.uk/games/crazy-frog/axel-f.htm yeah lets all do the crazy frog ba ding ding ding ba ding.
true but its only like a 20 min walk home and i sware i went to school or worked with everyone in there at some point in teh last 10 years. its the type of place you walk in on your own and meet 100 people you know. its not all about the music cos frankly its 90% shite. its more about the drink and the ladies for me. its jus a laugh with the lads.
oh god, is that how the ringtone sounds? no wonder all you hate it. I'd promptly run over anyone I heard ringing like that, or just stab them with my key or anything convenient.
anyone stupid enough to fund "the crazy frog" deserves everything they get, its a menace being proliferated by dullards and muppets. 0% sympathy here
it's their own faults if you dumb enough not to know they send you loads of cr*p at you expense as soon as you give them your number... it's even worse that some of these people want the ringtone who cares it's your own fault... the oviously targeted retards and people/kids who don't know what they are signing up to.
Its wrong that they're targeted at kids, but even kids can be educated to be smart enough not to take advertisements at face value.
I asked my daughter about this (15yo prone to bonehead cell usage) and she was all over the legal jargon. I was thankfully proud of her. Her comment was "it says it right on the TV, how could you do it by accident!". I on the other hand just want to hear the ring...she has a different ring for each of her friends...
