After a jigsaw for my modding needs and also for boarding the loft so it'll need to be decent at metal and also wood

    Any suggestions welcome

I'm looking at bosch ones at the moment cos all my power tools come from them (apart from the dremel), but I'm not precious about it. They just happen to be the right price and work great :)

    Many Thanks

For a quality product for a great price, try B&Q or Wickes. You'll get something heavy duty and ergonomically built. My dad recommends Black & Decker. If, like me, you are only going to use this for a single mod, and probably use very little ever again, I would recommend something cheap like:

    Hope that helps.

I've got a cheapy one already so looking for something quality, because the one I have sucks

I'll use it a lot once I've got it ... I've been looking at B&Q and black and decker so at least I wasn't too far away :)

    Bosch makes great jigsaws.

I'm having trouble with their site right now so I can't get model numbers for you. Basically, they have two normal handle jigsaws, one with the greates blade change system ever, and the other with a cheaper, slightly annoying blade change system. Both tools handle very well though, but if you can be patient with the cheaper model, you'll save a lot of money.

They also released a "OneTouch" version, but I'm not sure how it holds up the rest of the product line. There are a few other great brands as well, but Bosch is just about the best you can get.

The red triggered model is the more expensive unit, with a much easier blade change. I have the yellow trigger version, and it's not difficult to change blades. I only encounter problems when I lend the tool out and the person doesn't know how to read the simple step by step diagrams on the tool itself.

I love Bosch tools :D In fact most of my collection is Bosch

I personally do not like Black & Decker and find them to be cheap; (among other things their new litheon drills are terribly balanced)

I've got a cordless 18V Bosch Jigsaw that works really well; I really like the T-shank for quick bit changes ;)

The GST bosch tools are little over what I wanted to spend unfortunatly ... dam you higher interest rate and therefore mortgage payments

I'm looking at this model though, still a bosch the pst 650 l

The only problem is finding it (At this price)... as B&Q only let you buy it in store and as Cornwall is backwards I cant find any local stock D'oh!

You think this one will suffice?

I've been using a Bosch jigsaw for my modding endeavors, and it has worked flawlessly with a cutting blade made for metal - also for cutting acrylic.

It wasn't anything personal against you, I just saw Black & Decker mentioned a few times so I gave my opinion on them.

You want the 1590EVS, end of story. I'm a contractor and used a few types and the Bosch's are the best jigs that I've ever seen. If it's out of budget then wait till you can get it. This one should last you the rest of your life, we've never broken one and they get abused, wet(damp), mucky, and banged and bashed around. Its nice to use a saw and think to your self "damn that's a nice saw", rather than "damn I wish I spent a few extra bucks on a better one". The speed control is top notch, which matters more than you might think it does, and combined with 4 reciprocating settings and the additional blade guide you can make some very clean and accurate cuts.

    So there!:D

Gotta agree with you biff; I'm using the Bosch 52318 cordless jigsaw and it cuts really nicely

Unfortunately Biff... Google doesn't return any hits (that I could see/find) of UK suppliers for that particular jigsaw :(

Here's at least one. Sorry I left the K off the end of the part#, so it's a 1590EVSK.... not sure what the "K" means.

The letter designations help distinguish between otherwise identical jigsaw kits that come with a case and those that do not.

    Just a quick update

As I needed to get one now rather then saving I bought the best model I could afford I got the bosch 700 pe

Its a bit more powerful then the 650, with a greater cutting depth and it came with 10 free blades for different uses.

At £50 I didn't think that was too bad

    Thanks for all your help
