Hey guys, looking for some general advice here really to do with work and jobs. I'm recently graduated with an MSc around Sustainability and would love to go down the consultancy (focusing largely around energy) route with the job, but struggling to find a job in it at the moment in it. I currently work as an enemy advisor for a council, and have been pretty much offered a 2 year contract going forward with it with better pay, and working out of a different office. But the thing is while it is loosely in the sector I want to work in, it's not the exact career path I want to follow and I'm not sure whether to take it, or hopefully find a job within consultancy while I'm still classified as a graduate recent enough. What do you guys think I should do?/What would you do in this situation? Thanks.
Work is work, if you sit around waiting for the 'right' job you will be sitting for a very long time. Also, explaining why you effectively got a promotion is better in future interviews than explaining why you didn't take a job.
I'd say keep the job you have whilst looking for other options. Being unemployed just because it wasn't the job you wanted isn't a good or wise idea. I've been there, so I know how it feels to miss out because it wasn't good enough. Jobs are still pretty hard to get in this country, and it'll be even harder with all of the austerity that Cameron is planning. Work whilst you look for your ideal. If it pays the bills at the moment, then why throw it in?
energy* don't know why it changed (I'll just blame autocorrect!). I'll probably stay doing it, although first I'll do a couple of phone calls to see if theres anything I've applied for still going. Thanks for your advice.
So you are not planning for an attack by zombies or Russians or even Russian zombies? Now that would have been a job. On a tad more serious note stay where you are until such times as something you prefer comes along.
