A recruitment Agency I was interviewed by a month or so ago and whom then kept my CV on file called me this morning...

...The guy had openings for IT jobs in Iraq ranging from support to infrastructure and management work.

    Support roles were paying £60-90k.

    **** me.

I actually thought about it for a while.

If you took something like that up, you'd have to spend about £30k on personal security.

Would any of you lot go for it?

I know I'm gonna die at some point, that much is unavoidable so I do not fear death.

The reason I would not do it is because I would be away from my girlfriend which I would not be able to handle.

I've considered it. I know of several positions that are paying six figures with the first 80k or so being tax free. My wife and mother are against it for some reason. :grr:

If I could carry a weapon and never leave the base then I might be more serious about it.

If I didn't have to worry abort my kids, and I had a BIG gun, I would consider it.

I'd flat out do it if I were single.

I'd do it but only because i'm single, carefree, and am building up a nice sizable student loan that could do with paying off sooner rather than later.

A freind of mine used to work for the RAF training dogs, he was offered a job out there training sniffer dogs for mines.
    1st month = £10,000
    2nd month = £15,000
3rd month and all others after = £17,500.

He didn't go because of his wife and kids.

Me, personally I would do it you only live once and it's a lot of money, you might only have to do it for a year or two, then leave.

    Hi,

this is really different from person to person. I wouldn't because I wouldn't want to part from my family and friends for a long period of time.

but it must be quite an experience though!

One of the drivers who works for me has recently come back from working in Iraq. Today he showed me the pictures of his 4WD from over there (I'd previously heard the story but it didn't have the impact of the pictures).

One day while driving from X to Y (don't know, don't care) and an IED (improvised explosive device) was set off in a bush next to his fourby. The only thing that saved his life was the fact that he was travelling at 140km/hr and it was hard for whoever set off the device to accurately guage the time to activate the device.

It shredded the front tyre and put fist size shrapnel holes through the front guard. Needless to say he kept right on driving on the flat tyre.

F**k that for a game of soldier. /me has had his desire to chase the big $ dream slightly dampened after seeing that sh!t. :worried:

I value the next 40-50 (ish) years of my life more than the salary.

Here, here! Especially as it would appear no Westerner is safe there atm, even aid workers and Iraq citizens.

Expected life span of 45? you must have an interesting lifestyle.

Inevitably the same question will arise for health care workers. If they start looking for psychologists, I for one won't go. I have a wife and a life. I value both.

Buy a hell of a lot of brown boot polish, dye your hair black and wear a massive head dress whenever you go outside. 90k you say? which agency?

More an interesting set of genes...

Men in my mums side of the family rarely make it to 50. They age rapidly.
