I'm sure that more than a few of the British members will have listened to him, he'll be missed :sigh:

I'm truely saddened, he was great asset to the British music inductry and always came across as a really nice guy. 65 is too young.

    What a loss - R.I.P.

I don't even know what to say - Gutted. He'll be sorely missed by many, many people. Radio 1 just lost its last remaining talent.

    :( :sigh:

He was incredibly influential and important to the music industry. He'll be deeply missed by artists and listeners alike.

I may not have listened to his shows but I respected him for his views, and the way he'd never stick to a set playlist like the rest of the shows on Radio 1 and would play new music by bands no one had ever heard of.

It'll be hard to find anyone else who can fill his shoes the way he did.

    RIP Mr Peel.

I think instead of a minute's silence or whatever as a mark of respect, we should BLAST Teenage Kicks by The Undertones. It's what John would've wanted!

Radio 1 & 2 have been playing it after every news bulletin since the anouncement at 2pm.

Good for them, I've not been able to listen as work is a no-music zone. :(

No music allowed here either but have been on my own listening to my MP3\radio.

Newsbeat special for 15 mins at 5:45 on radio 1 if anyone wants to listen.

They're also replaying classic live sessions of his when he should be on for the next few days.

Some fairly moving tributes at the BBC News website.

Man, I'm absolutely gutted, so's the rest of my family. The man was a complete legend. Who else on radio is going to play records at the wrong speed? Play a gabba record stright after the beatles? Who else are all the new bands going to send their demo's to?
    The day the music died
    RIP

One of Mr Peel's favourites from a band he was more than a little way helpful in making the big time like so many more.

Are teenage dreams so hard to beat
Everytime she walks down the street
    Another girl in the neighbourhood
Wish she was mine, she looks so good

I wanna hold her wanna hold her tight
Get teenage kicks right through the night

I'm gonna call her on the telephone
Have her over cos i'm all alone
I need excitement oh i need it bad
And its the best, i've ever had

I wanna hold her wanna hold her tight
Get teenage kicks right through the night

I wanna hold her wanna hold her tight
Get teenage kicks right through the night

RIP john and thanks for being you and only ever you.

Although i've only heard his radio shows a few times, i totally agreed with everything he said on programs like grumpy old men and Room 101 etc. Truly a unique character who will be sadly missed throughout the UK. R.I.P. John Peel.

I'm glad John's got such a following around here. And that so many of us appriciated what a great DJ he was. I can't believe we won't have any more Peel sessions. Who can possibly replace someone like him...:waah:
