seti, search for extra terrestrial intellegenc it is a distributed computing program that takes information from berkly university froma radio sattelite & crunces the data on your machine, people do it as it give you points for the number of work units you do & its a macho thing as far as i can work out, the ive got more points, just like the ive got more horsepower in my car argument i stopped running it when UD came out as that uses your computers time to crunch data from oxford on cancer & it is hoping to find a cure one dad by using everyones spare pc time to find out what happens to a type of cancer cell when a type of drug is applied. UD is less intrusive & doesent slow your pc down, i found SETI was a bit too greedy with the resources, it alwasy had some when my main progs wanted them & it should stop when your ain progs request it, i would use UD instead but it puts your pc under full load continually oh the UD server is down i think there forums say so give it a couple of days before you try & get it (if youhave multiple machines run ud on that & just tell i get the workunits as it needs, i leave it running & i can play serious sam on my pc & not notic fram rate drops & its only a duron 700 with a gf 2mx
