Normally on waterblocks for example ones designed for the CPU... the hoses that carry the water to and from the block are on the top of the block.

But how about if the hoses are on the side, wouldn't that make it easier for the water to travel around. Since, unlike the normal ones the water doesn't enter and immediately hit the block , slow down and change direction?

    Just a thought

not really . the object is for the flow of cold water to hit directly over the core and to do it with a little force . if you learn about impingement you will learn all kinds of kool stuff. not to mention that side mounts would make the hose mounting very dificult due to mosfets north bridge and any other capacitors in the area

yeah. its really dificult to explain

you know when you are washing the dishes in the kitchen sink and the water hits a plate at a certian angle so that it sprays all over the place ? well that plate is getting cooled more eficiently than if it just sat in the same water . try a search on the web and youll get a lot more than you ever wanted to know
