If you wait a while you will probably find the prices for a 9800 pro go down a fair bit. But at the moment if it was me I would go for a 9800 pro.

Patience, my yound padawan. If you wait for ATI to release the new X800 card, you might see a price drop in their other cards (but I wouldn't count on it ). Right now, there's a $50 difference between the cheapest prices you can find each of the cards ($150 and $200). I guess it depends on your budget and whether you can afford an additional $50. I would search for some comparisons of the 9600XT vs. 9800 Pro and see if it's worth the additional money.
9800 pro - Ive had the ATI 9600xt and wasnt really impressed with it. Couldnt even muster a 4000 in 3dmark03 unless you overclock the bejesus out of it...
