I was looking at the Tech Support forums and i noticed most threads never get more than a few responces which is abit bad i personally feel? Theres people out there that need help and i know for a fact theres some really clever people here that have the knowledge and answers to help them!

I remember when i built my pc and it wouldnt even boot, if it wasnt for the guys here at bit-tech then i would never have got my rig off the ground, they help identify and solve my problem in the space of a few hours with their constant replys.

The thing is the threads dont get much notice these days of people needing help, i was thinking - perhaps an incentive to get people to help in the tech forums more? Something simple, i know another forum where i post they let you have different avatars the more points you build (of course its pointless here but just the principle idea) or perhaps a rating system to encourage people to increase their posting in these forums?
I dont know, maybe helping solve technical issues gives you a ranking of "technical Guru" or something just to show it off to your friends, maybe even a points ranking system that increases every time a problem is aided and solved.

Its just an idea, i thought id throw it out there! If i didnt have the help of bit-tech i would have been really screwed so im thinking, it would be nice for others to get the same type of help i recieved, i try to help as much as i can when i have answers but im not as knowledged as most the people here! doh!

    Just a thought = )

My thoughts on the matter are that Bit-tech is a modding forum, not a tech support forum. Of course no one is going to tell you to piss off if you ask for a bit of help, but there are better places to get tech support. Take a look at the trading forums here at Bit-tech, then look over at the ones on Anandtech or Hard forum. Slightly different to say the least.

I come on here to relax, sorting out tech issues, though rewarding and nice is not relaxing and generally just makes me more stressed. That is why I never post.

I used to sort out loads, but now a lot of them are exactly the same and people don't seem to read the FAQ before posting so it's just tedious.

I pretty much feel the same like Doug on this one. A lot of problems are solved by searching the board. Also, a lot of posters don't seem to put any effort in their posts, expecting the ones willing to help to have a 6th sense, or guess, about their setup and related bits.

Helping someone is fun, repeating yourself over and over again is plain boredom.

The way I even found bit was by searching for the model name for tech support answers, I found my answer and lurked for a while and signed up. Searching is the best way and then if you still haven't found an answer then post a new thread, most of those threads are all the same.

Why? One correct response and problem solved, thread done. Only other post needed is feedback from the OP (all too often missing :sigh:).

That's the essential difference between Tech Support and Hardware & Software; the latter is for discussion threads.

I dont mind trying to help someone who hasn't taken the time to read. most people are looking for a quick fix and thats fine, so if I need more information then I will ask for their system specs and more detail on the problem that they are having. if they answer my questions I have no problem answering theirs.
Of course it helps when I have days like today when I am getting paid to sit here and do nothing because the weathers bad.
