Then why would you vote no?

As I understand it, the entire point of this idea is to get them to do that. It's just a way to get new members to insert all the relevant information in their first post, so the whole first page of the thread isn't taken up by a back-and-forth Q&A session.

I really don't see why people would be opposed to the idea; it would help everyone out, even those who are new, as they often don't know what relevant information is needed before anyone is able to give sound advice.

    Same here. Why?

    1) People are lazy - they want a) attention b) to be told what to do by more than 1 person before spending money.

    2) People are lazy - they don't search through existing threads as it is. They are all tagged with "build guide" and can be filtered by it as well.

    3) People are lazy - they often don't read the buyers guide, and the alternative suggestions. If they can't use their brain to say "Oh, this PC is £450.. but I want this and not this..." then they won't be satisfied by filling in a form that gives them the info.

It's a noble idea, but it won't work sorry.

As reluctant as I am to disagree with the omnipwntent, I'm not sure we're on the same page. Like smc8788 says...

...It's not going to give them the answers, it's just going to extract from them a few bits of information that the forum needs to give good advice - budget, components already owned, intended use etc. It's not a form that will give them info, it's a form that will give us info neatly formatted in the first post of the 'Build Advice' thread. Then, we can give advice in the thread as usual, except we'll have a clearer idea of what they want to do.

I don't understand why it wouldn't work. If they're too lazy to fill out the form, well, that's their problem and we'll have to do the traditional back-and-forth-for-a-page-and-a-half to discover exactly how much cash they have and what they want to do with it. But can it hurt to offer it as an option when someone starts a Build Advice thread?

Ahhhhh, now I SEE. You want to have just a list - not an interactive form.

    Yes, excellent Idea.

Decide what you want in it, then put that up in a new thread and ill sticky it. :thumb:

    Cool :)

Since no one else seems to have offered anything, how about something like:

I tried to keep it as short as possible as I know people are usually pretty lazy at reading these sorts of things (myself included), but I emboldened the main points so they stood out.

If there's anything you can suggest I change or add in I'll edit it later :)

Thanks a lot PureSilver, you've got guts to go against the almighty omnipwntent :p
I couldn't put what I was thinking into an understandable sentence which probably didn't help to sell the idea :hehe:
Masssive thanks to Smc too, I tried to do a mock list but didn't get anywhere  but from what I see it looks liek it has covered everything
Expect rep coming your way guys :)
Final thanks to Bindi of course accepting the idea, cheers

Nicely done smc! I couldn't come up with anything as complete. Now we'll have to see whether any of them use it... :D
