This was my score with the 680s running @ stock, cpu was at 4.5:

Yep the 7970M's are OC on the link.

You would get another 2k point more with a 4.5GHz OCed CPU.
The problem again is the chart doesn't state what rig was used to obtain those scores.

We should do a comparison with our CPU's at 3.5GHz and the GPU's at stock (1006MHz No GPU boost)

True about the CPU OC ^^

I think my non boost core is 967Mhz but they are designed to boost at stock so it would be a little non representing true 670 performance to disable boost completely. What do you think?

My chip goes to 3.9 turbo stock I think the maximum I can lower that is 3.7 or 3.6
Fancy overclocking to make it fairer? Unless I can force 3.5

 

Just seen that.... Funds won't stretch quite that far at the mo mate considering I don't need one. Always trying to take my cash (checks 930 in sig )

Speaking of which though what's gaming like on it, although that wouldn't be its main use as any laptop will sit next to my gaming pc.

I have a 2nd pc that I may use to upgrade the GFs but am thinking of a lappy to sit there for occasional stacking of images that I shall hopefully take on my hols - it may be handy to have a lappy actuall on hols though to test out some stacking as I take photos but some minor gaming may be handy for when it rains...

So maybe I do need one

By turning turbo off, your CPU will run at 3.5GHz max, which would be easy for me to obtain on my laptop. So then we can compare CPU scores as well..

The problem with GPU boost is, every card will boost differently. Some higher than others, so no 2 GTX 670/680 will perform the same. So with you running at stock 967MHz will give us real world results. And so we can see where the 7970M will sit on a table against desktop GPU's. Agree?

Lol, you do get goods for the cash I take.

Gaming on it is OK! If you set the res to 1280x720 you can play all games with a mixture of Low/Medium settings and achieve 30FPS. Older titles can be maxed out quite easily and run at 60FPS.

Other than that, it is very snappy on the desktop, so it's good for multitasking etc.

Hm, has the switching graphics every been an issue? I understand you can't install ati drivers as it switches (is that right) so it has to be the MSI ones?

Maybe I should be asking in your sale thread lol but then again you did start it.

 

Never had any issues with the switchable GFX's. (you just push a button for either to enable it.)

You can only use the MSI ones, but there are ways to install newer drivers. I just left it with the stock ones.

Ain't naming no names saw a guy say it and decided to attempt to save TG from any more aggressive bromance. Failed miserably

 

Will turn turbo off.. not ready to run anything yet, mounting the 280 has taken me ages with the tennis on, still haven't filled the loop back up.

Boost is a variable but they all have it as a feature and all run at their minimum boost speed under full load afaik. I reckon forcing the reference listed boost speed is as fair as we can get. 967 would be underclocking imo.

 

Finally got around to doing some testing -


This is with the 3770k underclocked to 3.5 and the 2 670s with minus 100Mhz offset - boosting to less than 1050Mhz




This is with the 3770k at stock 3.9Ghz as it comes retail, 670s again with minus 100Mhz offset





This is my standard boot and run settings. CPU and GPUs at stock






And this is what I run 24/7 -




Would love to see what the alienware can do with maxxed out clocks

 

3.5GHz CPU, Stock 850Mhz/1200Mhz on both GPU's. Not bad for a laptop!



I can't find any software to OC the GPU's...Any clue?
