Don't get me wrong mate, my setup sounds 1000 times better than any PC speaker setup, when my friends first heard it they were like :jawdrop:

It's just because i've been using it for a few years that my ears have begun to hear imperfections, and the subwoofer fills certain gaps perfectly.

So far I've noticed MASSIVE improvements in sections of Fear factory and Soilwork songs that have mad fast foot bassing, it just 'makes' the song (if you get me)

    [EDIT]

just listened to Red Barcetta by Rush, what an improvement! (Sorry lol, i'm just rediscovering my music collection)

    [/EDIT]

Was the subwoofer connected to home audio equipment or to your PC?
    Behold the undeniable truth.

wow... thanks GuitarBizarre. I also now feel enlightened. As you said, makes me want to go build my own system and chuck my 600$ sony setup... and I didn't think it sounded half bad.

Did i read right, u used to listen to music through a center speaker?!!

Shame on you, the vast majority of music is intended for listening through stereo (2.1)...never never listen to music through more than 2.1!! Surround is for films and games, hence most audophiles have an AV setup for their hoem cinema and an amp setup for their music.....as AV units don't produce quality stereo like a true stereo amp.

Bought myself the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 system a few years back. Music has never been so good. Awesome sound.:hip: If you like mellow music I highly recommend Vangelis "Conquest Of Paradise" and "Alexander", both are soundtracks from the films. The films were not very well received but the soundtracks are superb. :baby:

Lol no, i have a center that I enable when i'm playing games or watching video/dvd, i switch to stereo on the amp for music, the center just ruins the effect :)

A NAD T751 I bought off Chris (Mushky) (about 2 yrs ago i think?)

Not a bad unit, NAD make some solid stuff, will probably do you for afew years yet unless you plan to upgrade.

Bungle - Z-5500 are pretty good all round mid range computer speakers, definately a good buy for the money, but i've never liked them much for music, not bad though.

Good way to build your own setup is to buy some cheap richer sounds speakers & get rid of the inards and use the speakers compartments to start you off.....

Thing is I'm pretty sure my ears are squiffy from all the Heavy metal/rock concerts I've been to. Standing next to marshal amps when Pantera are screaming "cowboys from hell", is not the best environment for ear drums. What a concert though. them speakers are good enough for this old geezer.

I used to swear by sub woofers, but that was until I got pro studio monitors, near enough flat frequency response down to about 30Hz, with these you suddenly realise that most consumer products have a peak around 4 - 5KHz to make them sound 'sweater', but once you hear music with out that peak everything else sounds too vocal/guitar heavy.
There are still occasions when a sub would be nice, but not much (music) requires a good response below 30Hz. I always found with subs I could just stick it in the corner and let the walls do all the work :D

Why does GuitarBizarre have to post in different colours to the rest of us?

I was going to whine and say that that totally depends on the amp, which is true in certain cases, I have 2 av amps and 2 stereo amp. My nice stereo amp drives music very well, better than my first AV amp, but my uber pwning av amp you can click it through the settings and there a couple that pwn.

Also: "Charlie - The prodigy" is a better bass test :p
    or Mary Anne Hobbs.

I technically shouldn't be able to, they turned off the colour tags. Hence why my sig is no longer Dark Orange. For some reason it didn't affect the older posts.

And I post in a different colour just because its my thing, I do it on most boards I'm on, unless I'm feeling lazy. It started just because I felt like it for a while, but after a while I realized it helps integrate into a community in some ways, because people remember that you're 'The blue guy' or 'The red guy'

Edit: And the important thing when testing a stereo isn't the pleasingness of the sound, its the accuracy. Anyone testing a stereo should bring a piece of classical music that they're VERY familiar with the sound of, a piece of their favourite music that they're VERY familiar with the sound of (Preferably an acoustic guitar, for a wide range of dynamics and such), and a quality recording of one of their friends speaking. That way you can tell exactly how close a representation of the sound is to the real thing. If it desnt sound as close asp ossible to your friend speaking, then the system is lacking somewhere. You should try and get it to sound as lifelike as possible.

I must disagree. Accuracy is only one a small part of a large group of things to listen for.
Of course the instruments must sound accurate, but if the timing is off they will sound rubbish. etc.
You need to take a balanced look as no speaker is perfect, except my own of course ;) (just in my mind though).

Also if you are taking a classical piece make sure it has violins and also something with a piano on (jazz maybe) as the piano is one of the hardest instruments for speakers to recreate.
