I've had mixed results from OCUK. On the one hand they've been great (I ordered a £40 2007 CE Boomslang and no Tshirt came which they rectified FAST) and then I got screwed by them when they 'played their hand' on me. Basically I bought a reboxed 6970 Lightning. It failed, and I asked for RMA. They recited their "Testing fee" clauses to me which pissed me off. So they have the same sort of bent practices that Scan do. So I sent it back to MSI directly at a cost of £18. So it was sort of a pissed off happiness.
Yeah but if they have a price guarantee then they should have got the money back anyway. As I say because of the experience I have had with them even after giving them a 2nd chance, I will only use them in a emergency but it doesn't stop me from telling people to use them if they need/want to.
Well my refund has come through and the stellar company was amazon. Always had nothing but brilliant service with them. Although the oem cpu should never have been in the box in the first place at least I ended up with a cheap quad. Had a couple of issues with Amazon market place rma's and always got refunded and wasn't even asked to return the items (they were pretty cheap items though), I do have to send back my 740k when the new one arrives though
I've had a bad experience with OCUK when I built my rig a few years back, so will avoid them at all costs for major components. So far never had to test Scans RMA process however I do not like the fact they opened my 460 to "check the contents". I'm prety sure EVGAs QA/QC process is good enough to ensure all the bits are in the box. Novatech way back when I bought by AMD Athon system in uni were really good with the RMA process when they sent me a chip with the wrong FSB, they got their chips mixed up and swapped it immediately for me on realising their error. With regards to Amazon I'd never buy an expensive item from a marketplace seller I'd always buy from either amazon direct, or an amazon fulfilled seller at a push, as their customer services is great. Oh and MODMyPi.com's RMA process seems great, just going through it now. Their branded PIO sd card adaptor killed the socket on one of my Pi's. Emailed them with some pictures and they are going to replace them both once I've sent them back
Amazon marketplace is safe I bought a 8800 GTS to pair up with one I already had (used obs). So it arrived in a padded envelope with a cap snapped off. Long story short? Amazon gave me the money back after the seller (a young chav) told me to piss off.
..........and it's happened again, exactly the same cpu, exactly the same problem. Ordered a 740X for my mo in laws pc from amazon, turns up with the seal broken but sellotaped shut, cpu is in it's plastic case but instead of being at the side of the box so you can see the printing on the chip through the window its been crammed down the side of the heatsink. Oh and too top it all off it's once again and OEM chip and not a boxed chip like was advertised so only a one year warranty and not a 3 year. Amazons own Product Description AMD ATHLON II X4 740 32GHZ SKT FM2 L2 4MB 65W PIB AD740XOKHJBOX Components Processors CPU My chip has the code AD740XOKA44HJ. Last time I buy a chip from amazon no matter how much cheaper they are.
Was this sold by Amazon, or sold by a third party and fulfilled by Amazon, or was it Amazon marketplace?
This time it was marketplace, the time before it was amazon themselves. The seller has more 740's for sale and I have contacted them so we will see what they have to say.
You have them bang to rights. They are selling OEM products as consumer grade hardware along with the price premium that comes with it. Should be escalated to trading standards but if you fancy a discount then point out the error of their ways!
That's what I did last time and got a discount but to be honest I'm still pissed about the reduced warranty. Touch wood, cpu's run at stock rarely fail. Can't believe it's happened twice in a row, I bet amazon are thinking geez what's this guy trying to pull.
If it's marketplace though, Amazon probably won't be any the wiser as to your complaints. On the plus side, there's no ambiguity about the situation. You shouldn't have any trouble.
