Went round to my mums for tea tonight, and as usual I went to update her virus definitions and do a quick system check. Had to download 6meg of virus definitions etc, which took ages. As she uses the net for her business (ordering online and research), and shes always complaining about how slow it is - only ever get about 40kb connection at best, I thought about all the new cheap packages available for broadband. So I just ordered the 256 package from Pipex (fast enough to make a difference) for her Well as I pay £14/month for her dial up account (I set it up for her initially and done it on my credit card, never had the heart to ask her for the cash, I think she thinks the internet is free ) an extra few quid a month ain't going to break the bank. This should be a nice surprise when I turn up with an ADSL modem (hopefully within the next couple of weeks), going to do a little upgrade on her PC at the same time.
Cool, just doing the same here - half meg broadband and a wireless network. the broadband works fine so far; we used Metronet who offer a pay-as-you-go service (monthly price varies from £11-25 with bandwidth used). wireless is a little dissapointing - in my limited experience it seems to need coaxing to work properly, which is irritating. Oh well, mum hates cables so it's the only option
I just got my grandpa on cable. He checks his email. That's all. But the house they moved in to didn't have 2 phone lines hooked up and he didn't want to tie up a line. So, it was either cable or DSL.
I used to think that too, until i got hit with the broadband bill, that was nasty but most definatly worth it to get this sitting in the taskbar everytime i use the net:
nope but i was forced into getting AOL, dont know quite why as im paying for it but its broadband anyways. ive got it sorted by building another pc to run AOL whilst i connect to it via the network.
