I thought al-Qaeda and the "old regime" were bad guys? So Iran is joining Bush's War on Terror™ against them? Doesn't that make Iran our ally?
This is getting darn confusing, perhaps we should just nuke them all, god will recognise his own - type thing? Iran is the enemy over Al-Quida, I reckon. Al-Quida could be turned into "militias" and contingents of an iraqi army. Most of the regular militia types who would be fighting american soldiers could fight the same cause as them, so long as it was against Iran. Be good PR for the US in Iraq(parts of it at least), deprive al Quida(gods I hate that name) proper of resources, and refocus Iraqi hatred at Iran instead of The US of America. Hmm, this might turn out rather peachy for certain rich men in suits.
Of course Al-Qaeda is the enemy of Iran. Al-Qaeda is a terrorist organisation, Iran is a government in powere that wants to stay in power, thank you very much. I think that Spec's hypothesis makes good sense. It wouldn't be the first time the US has slept with the enemy. But personally I think even the Bush administration can't see the forrest for the trees anymore.
enemy of my enemy is my friend, eh? could work. weren't we involved last time those two fought, circa 1980?
But he's saying "My enemy's enemy is my enemy too". Or "Nobody likes me. " I think he's being very dog-in-the-manger over this. "It's my War on Terror™ and I say who can come." I hope he has better luck with the petrol thing. I mean, reducing domestic consumption from over double Europe's to almost double Europe's is really going to halt climate change dead. But with a 2017 target, he doesn't need to upset the country while he's on watch. People will say, "OK, he may have started a few messy wars, killed umpteen thousand civilians, brought the country into disrepute, cut a few freedoms, but at least he didn't put gas up."
yeah, i noticed that about the gas too... i watched some of the state of the union last night, only half paying attention. didn't he say he didn't want to lay our problems on future generations? well i guess he doesn't mind laying them on the near future presidents... off topic: i was watching it on the local fox station, and i kept noticing that they rarely showed the dems side (probably b/c they rarely appaluded), but didn't have a problem showing the GOP stalwarts appaluding his every word... also pelosi was cut in half on the right side of my screen, but i got a full view of cheney over bush's shoulder. biased camera work? and is it me, or does cheney always seem to be sneering or snarling?
Fox News is always biased, and Cheney never does seem to look happy. Bush's energy incentives kind of suck, but at least he has some, a long way from "Global Warming is a myth"
Actually, now I read the T&C, the gas thing, it's nothing to do with reducing climate change, CO2 emission will almost certainly go up. It's a contingency plan for when the Middle East is radio-active. But one for the next president to worry about.
Yes, this is Bush' new strategy. If you can't control the oil, you better learn to do without so much of it. Of course, "environmental concerns" is also a great way of justifying price hikes.
I take it everyone noticed how the majority of the Senate did not clap Mr. Bush's speech a couple of days ago? The senate is removing itself from the Whitehouse slowly as a sign of dissapproval. Also, the images of the new Iraqi policing force/army/religious militia that have been released today show that the Shia and Sunni forces are already going to blows. I predict that it will become like the Israel/Palestine conflict where the children are bought up based on hatred. As much as I dislike religion, Christianity does teach (or at least did when they tried to feed me it) loving thy neighbor, treat overs as you want to be treated etc. It seems like they learned from the last crusade.
Didn't stop the IRA though did it? When people are fighting wars they fight for the religion and not for it's values.
