I am looking to mod my MBP - change the screen to full HD, etc, but have a couple of questions before I go on my computer dismantling rage - the point is - if i remove any item that is stuck using kapton tape - should I put it back with the old tape, or get a roll of new one and stick everything in place with fresh new pieces? The other thing is the adhesive used to stick various sensors etc - where can I get it and is it essential for the components to work properly? What I mean is - what is your experience with half-arsed replacements, such as electrical tape etc - I want to keep it as OEM as possible, but on the other hand would love to save most hassle with kapton and sticking things back
You can generally reuse the "yellow tape" inside Apple hardware several times, but I've not had much luck doing it with the actual Kapton tape (the clear brown stuff) more than about twice. Most of the tape is yellow though. The adhesive holding sensors etc is just thin double-sided tape (probably 3M VHB)
