I keep it open sometimes. But if I am going to play a game or something and don't want it taking up too much clock cycles and baud I close it.

It's open right now. I'll leave it on while i'm at school, and at night.
My level is 12, but no one has been uploading yet, since I turned it on. When I first got it it was on 24/7 :D

I can't usualy use Kazaa while surfing or anything. Doesn't anyone find that it uses a huge amount of bandwidth even when not downloading anything? The first time I tried playing UT2003 online it was horrendous. I would keep jumping around everywhere and end up gong backwards and people killed me within seconds of spawning. After closing Kazaa it worked flawlessly. Doesn't anyone else find that Kazaa eats up bandwidth?

I can keep surfing at pretty much ok speeds even when kazaa is maxed out on bandwidth

The problem with the Participation rating is that it goes up as fast as it goes down. This means that if you have Cable or ADSL you have to stop downloading in order to get the rating to go up, which is just wrong. Surely if files are to spread you need to download as well as upload. I think so long as you are uploading your participation level should go up, downloading shouldn't have any effect on it.

How is the participation level supposed to drop then ?

So if you got it 1000 and then stopped sharing, it would just stay there forever ?

Hmm good point. I think then it should take into account your up/down ratio. If the level went up four times quicker than it went down it would be fairer - for cable and adsl users anyway.

Ya, and keep all of the cable networks in any kind of populated area running like ****. Since cable companies like to overload nodes, with half the node running P2P software latency goes all to hell and throughput is subpar. Nothing they will do about it either.

For at least 4 hours last night I was getting horrible latency. DLing files at 60kbps: when I played Wolfenstein I would peridically lag out (lose control of character because of lag, having a ping of 999) and the Activity light on my modem was on full.
I am paying for a service that's "50 times as fast as dial up* *36.6kbps" and getting 60k. I think Comcast is getting a little complaint from me

Huh? How can 36kbps be 50x faster than dial up when dial up is faster?!

By dial up they mean 36.6k dial up
So cable is supposed to be 1.83MBps
    Whilst i'm getting 60k!
