Okay chappies, I'm getting one of these fellas:

    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pro...d=4208&cadid=16a13827a0f685e4e70aa7b1e2a2c234

I intend to plug it into the rear of a new Kenwood headunit, and I would like to then set it up so I can have my iPod stored in the glove compartment. Obviously therefore the leads need to dangle down behind this part of the interior.

As the more observant chaps might have spotted from my sig, I have a Mk2 Golf. Anyone know how easy it is to do this sort of thing on this, or any car for that matter? Is there like, a big ol' cavity behind the dashboard and trim? Can I just feed the wire down from the headunit in the centre console? I've pulled the current Kenwood reciever out for a look and it seems pretty straightforward, connection wise - it's the feeding the wire into that dark abyss behind the console that scares me.

    Any help would be appreciated.

this is easy, youve done the hard bit by removing the H/U normally there is a hole on the right of the glove box that you can feed the wire through and it wont get trapped or restrict the glove box opening on closing, there is a BIG BIG space behind the dash and you shouldnt have any problems running cables, you may want ot get some Zip-Ties to hold the Ipod cable out of the way and thats it. its no hard at all.

if your anywhere neare southampton i can do it for you

Awesome! I'll have a look when I get home tonight. Sadly I live in Newcastle... not terribly close to Southampton

    Bugger.

I've just checked and there's no hole in the glove box.

    Suggestions?

second that, as I would imagine drilling a smalliSh hole to pass the cable through, would be a lot easier then taking the whole dash apart to see if there would be somekind of place where you could make a groove as such with a file and then run the cable through that when snapping everything back into place...

Ok, I'll get my dremmel ready to do the dirty deed. I just hope I have the dexterity and patience to feed the wire through from the headunit... >_<

Best of luck! I am sure it will be fine, just think of it as drilling a hole through your iPod/iBook (dont ask me why you would do that) and I am sure you will have both patience and dexterity...
