Hi guys, I require the help of the bit-tech collective.

My keyboard (Mionix Zibal 60) suddenly stopped working this morning, I turned on my PC to complete by XCOM download on steam and the keyboard was working fine.

I then left the room to take a shower and returned ~10-15 mins later. during this time my PC seems to have restarted as steam was now closed and startup programs like origin and 'you need to update flash' messages were showing.

since this apparent restart (the cause of which is unknown) my keyboard hasn't functioned, the scroll lock, caps lock and numlock lights are all lit and windows states 'USB device not recognised'

I have tried uninstalling it from device manager, plugging it in different ports. booting with it disconnected and plugging in when booted into win 7.

any ideas on what the problem might be/ how to resolve it?

Uninstall your USB hub and let it reinstall

Probably a silly question, but have you tried plugging the keyboard in to another machine/laptop just to confirm that it still functions as normal?

I have indeed tried it on my laptop and it did work. I'm going to try restoring my system from an earlier date when I get home from work

And nothing in the event viewer pointing to the cause of the restart?

honestly I didn't check, I was too busy trying to get the keyboard to work whilst getting dressed for work.

I suspect that it was a windows update as one was downloading last night.

In the short term at least your board has a PS/2 connector on it, so a cheap adaptor (most of us have one lying about somewhere) will see you up and running again.

My Poker did this to me the other day. Windows update = keyboard problem... coincidence?
Does it work in bios? If yes...
Suffer doing this with mouse only, it sucks, but you can do it... you can use virtual keyboard for somethings if needed.

Start up an elevated command prompt,
    set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

start devmgmt.msc (must start from cmd)
    show hidden devices
delete EVERYTHING from human interface devices, keyboards, and usb controllers
keyboard should be connected. If you have a password to logon, you should remove it first since you won't be able to use keyboard to type it... reboot.
Hopefully everything will get reinstalled and functioning.

If it dosen't work in bios even, then the controller probably gave up the ghost. See about rma with Mionix.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I've managed to resolve the issue.

    How?

Well I plugged in a old USB Cherry TKl I had laying around, that worked fine, I then plugged my Mionix in as well then removed the cherry and it works!

    Now to play xcom...
