I saw a trailer for this in the cinema, but instead of being the whole thing it was just the first bit where someone jumps off a building. After that it just came up with the logo and that was it. Having watched a new one it looks awesome. :D

GS - I think it opened on Friday.

Krikkit - It is awesome. It's Nick Cage's best gig in ages. And whilst it's all about the hero and his alter ego Kick Ass, Hit Girl just melts your heart with her potty mouthed ultra violence. :D

Saw a preview of it a while back. Yes, it's Nicolas Cage's best film in a long while, but he's the guy that made Ghost Rider, Bangkok Dangerous and a ton of other forgettable films. Kick-Ass is a 6 out of 10 film; there are worse ways to spend your time, but there are far better, too.

As with pretty much all Hollywood comedies these days, all the funniest jokes are in the trailer. Yes, the casting is good, and the script is fine, but the direction is really mediocre. There's no sense of visual style at all; it's a by-the-numbers blend of a bit of Matrix slow-mo and a bit of that Kill Bill super-saturated comic book look and a bit of Watchmen grittiness. It never quite figures out if it's playing everything for laughs or if Kick-Ass's mission is a serious one that you're supposed to care about - so when the emotional crisis point comes, the film is trading in emotional capital that's entirely unearned.

It's also far too violent. I'm not against cinematic violence, but it has to be relevant - as it is say, in a gangster movie like Goodfellas or Casino, or even in something like the Matrix - but the endless stabbings and gory shootings in Kick-Ass make it a difficult film (for me) to enjoy.

I was going to see it after seeing a trailer. Then I saw another. And another. And I quickly realised that I'd seen the same bits reorganised; a clear tell-tale that all the best bits are in the trailer. I'll pass and go see something better and more original.

Plus, I can't stand Jonathon Ross and that extends to his wife too.

The film is just awesome. Haven't laughed that much in ages and really really enjoyed it. Trailers do not show all the best bits thankfully.

    See this. Now.

Why are you still reading this and not buying tickets???

That can work both ways. See too much footage in multiple trailers and it gives people the feeling they've watched the film already.

Usually if there is a film that I really want to see (maybe by a writer/director I like), I try to avoid all trailers for this very reason.

Also, Ms. Ross wrote the screenplay for Stardust which was a very overlooked gem of a film (same director as Kick-Ass too).

Anything the Daily Mail hates is bound to be a winner!!! I mean where would we be with the DM telling us what's bad so we know where to go for good stuff eh ;)

I'm not normally a film buff but I'm actually looking forwards to seeing this with my daughter. We've set up a group on Facebook for ordinary people with superpowers called ' Freq-y People' so come and say hi if you want and share what your superhero name and power would be...

If only life was as easy though... Simply develop a power and fight crime... Ho hum :)
