Very good article! And great for him. MS was just being a right pain in the arse.

"Microsoft even went so far as to accuse Zamos of unfair competition, claiming that his $143.50 in profits forced the company to sustain "substantial impact."

Microsoft is talking just BS. They earn $35BILLION and claim $143.50 casues problems. Heck, they probably spend more repairing a window, in which case MS wouldn't complain about.

If this had happened in the UK, the case would've been thrown out the window because MS would have broken the law in the first place by not allowing the product to be returned within 28 days!

    Yeah, absolutely.

The funniest part of the whole thing is how the guy taught himself the principles of law overnight. :D

:hehe: I think it's ridiculous that Microsoft refused to take back the software; I mean it's not as if they couldn't just resell it on again!

good for him, and i think its brilliant how he managed to learn the principles of law and pick apart other law suits to benefit him.

    Amazing!

A great read, that is crazy that MS backed down to a college student who isn't even studying law. It's a shame that they use cookie-cutter lawsuits against kids for petty claims.

This guy should start a law firm solely aimed at combating Microsft :hehe:

Too bad he said he hated law.

:hehe: hes right though.. microsoft do own the universe!

everything one way or another is riddled with microsoft programs, even phones now, games consoles, servers, palm tops, even our air conditioning is controlled by windows ce. Kinda daunting really.

I think we can safely say Microsoft have been pwned! I love to hear about cases like this, not just against MS but any big corporation trying to shaft the small guy just becuase they think they can.

Microsoft do have a point with people re-selling educational software at full price, but obviously this case was different. In fairness to Microsoft - there are so many of these cases that they don't have time to work out who's genuine and who's trying to make easy money before filing the law suit.

Well done to the guy though for coming through and winning the case, in the end.

Read that a while back, it's great to hear that it was possible for someone to not only beat the Microsoft goons but to do it on his own, without a lawyer. Heartening news.
