To be fair, I think that everyone needs to be looked at as an individual. I'm 18, on a Gap Year and about to start working 5 days a week for work experience (currently working a few days a week and also completing a maths course. I know how to cook, clean and keep myself clean. Yet I know people of my age who don't work, and don't care about anything other than having fun (not realising that they need money normally to do so).

Obviously, there will be people with their heads on straight, wanting to improve their lives, and so need to be more mature than that.

To the OP, what job do you do? Would it be one where a large percentage of clients are the sort that you're ranting about? Ie, if it was a loan company sort of job, it would be unlikely that the people who have been successful would need loans.

And yes, I know how to polish shoes. I even know how to lace them back up... :D

Sir, you clearly have no understanding of how much of an absolute git I am to people right? I have a massive superiority complex derived from the fact I'm aboute six times smashier and smarter than people. Can't help that... apparently it's the way I grew up...

If anyone is smart enough to decode the previous comment into something constructive for this thread, I will give you a kitten.

Six times smarter than people, and yet you work in a benefits office? Surely you should be solving the cure for cancer dear sir.

After it's had a good telling off for not having it's whiskers groomed before going out! Damn student cat.

So if we can solve cancer by improving your intellect 6 times over, you'd better get the text books out, hadn't you?

This i will admit is one thing that really really bugs me.

Firt of all i will give credit where its due since you've stated that you're using this time to both work and gain work experience also. Commendable and sensible and will undoubtedly prove beneficial when your education resumes.

However. The amount of people around this age who have a gap year to go backpacking or do nothing or whatever really piss me off. Sorry, but they do.

Yes of course they need that year off because all the stresses they've encountered in life so far are just sooooo bad and its all too much so they absolutely must take a years holiday in order to cope.

If more of them took your stand point and actually used this time to their future advantage then i think it could raise the general opinions of students substantially.

I sent the warehouse manager up in flames at work the other due to an intelligence based comment. Sadly it was RL not t'interwebs so doesn't count.

"You dont have to try being so clever all the time you know."
"Quite right mate, i dont have to try at all."

Anyway back to thread stuff. Considering he works in the benefits office then i would imagine that he probably IS six times smarter than half the people he comes into contact with.

Smell it? I can feel the heat now. Soon my skin will be blistering from it.

I'm 18, nearly 19 and I can look after myself (ironing, cooking, cleaning, money etc.) I have two jobs and I'm going into the Navy at the end of this year/start of the next. Until then it's working as much as possible to get a motorbike, hopefully go on a long distance road trip somewhere then it's into the military with me.

I can't honestly say I hate my generation. However, I've come to deem my generation as being the same age as me or a little older. About two years younger and all kids become arrogant little pillocks. When I was 11 I never even considered challenging an 18 year old, now it's like they have a sworn duty to act like little d**ks to everyone.

I would say I blame the parents but I struggle to find the reasoning so I'm at a loss to what's gone wrong.

    /rant
