Well I flashed the BIOS of my DFI Lanparty 790FXB and now the computer wont even POST, LED display shows 88.

Is there any solution bar an RMA?

I've tried the CMOS reset jumpers and I've remove the battery with the power supply off for 10 mins (even tried shorting the battery socket as well).

Ive had a similar thing with my DFI NF590. My workaround for that is the take the power out of the motherboard. Leaving the psu off dose not work. for about 10 mins. then it boots fine.

I also believe that DFI will send you a new bios chip out. If you can not fix it.

There are websites that will sell you a pre-programmed replacement BIOS chip. Assuming that its a socketed chip and not surface mounted then you can peel off the sticker, tell them the details and email them the BIOS version you want on it. They will then send you a chip - obviously it'll cost you a small fee!

Alternatively check your manual, there might be a blind flash option. I had an MSI board that could do that, you had to attach a floppy, put your BIOS (naming procedures apply) on a floppy along with a utility and then boot while holding down a key on the keyboard. It would then do an automatic re-flash - or so goes the theory, I never needed to.

I found a connector seemably for flashing the BIOS but I don't have the equiptment to do anything with it. Could I try hot-flashing the BIOS in a different motherboard;would an MSI x48 board be able to do it providing tit had the smae kind of BIOS chip?

doubt it and certainly wouldn't recommend it - but try at your own risk if you like I suppose.

Well I ordered a new chip but it was the wrong size and now I think I've killed the original. Should I just contact DFI?

Does anybody have a DFi contact link, I can't find one.

Power light on but no power.

Well I think I've completely killed my Lanparty DK 790FXB. The power light comes on on the motherboard but when the power or the onboard powerswitch is pressed nothing happens. The motherboard will come on when the PSU is shorted but won't POST.

    Is it completely dead.

What have you done that could damage it? High voltage settings? Dropped from a great height? Flood damage?

Re-do all the faffing about putting the cpu in, making sure there's nothing in the cpu socket or on the bottom of the cpu.

Uh, mucked around with the BIOS chip (physical chip)?

It seems well and truly dead and I've only had it a month. Going to see if they'll let me RMA it tommorow.

Guess I'm a little late here - but 99% of good modern motherboards has some sort of "BIOS recovery". Even if BIOS flash fails for any reason, there should be way to boot into "safe-mode" & reflash it back. Just check manual carefuly. For example - on intel MB's there's jumper with which you can clear cmos, but if you remove it and power on your PC, it will try to recover from bad bios flash. Asus, MSI, GByte has something similar...
I wanted to find some specific information on how to recover bios on your board, but navigating through DFI's web is piece of hell, especially with crappy wifi connection.

The problems you described - "no boot" or even "no power" can be caused by bad BIOS(corrupted BIOS program - because it's partially active even before MB is switched on). Once you put in the right BIOS chip it'll work like nothing bad ever happened.

Well, even with two different replacement BIOSes it didn't boot and it was botting with the bad one until something happened.

EDIT: Thanks anyway, wish I knew all this earlier.
