Has anyone tried this ? looking at it for a possible solution for a client looking at USB 2.0 certified USB over Cat5 at a eye watering £300-400 !!!! money isnt really the issue more tehcnically possible has to be Cat5 as thats what the TV point already has and dont wanna go chasing out the wall for more wires. thanks in advance for suggestions
What sort of distance do you want to go over? What age xbox? Do you have a spare power socket behind the TV?
distance is not far but like i said irrelevant because no cabling can be done. Cat5 is already in place behind the TV to the media rack so it just a case of wether it works or not. haveing a browse on the web doesnt look proming but a lot of people are asking the same question as people dont wanna commit £300-400 on a USB2.0 over cat5 extender. Not sure on the age sof the xbox ill have to check, kinda see where your going though as ive heard older xboxes need a seperate PSU. Found some info on that earlier but people still had issue with hubs and extenders.
I'd also be concerned whether the extenders also introduced any latency - probably not an issue if they were being used for a printer or normal webcam, but could be a killer with a Kinect.
I have no idea if this would work but it is a lot cheaper assuming USB 1.1 would do: http://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=35_38&products_id=469.
