First off it did take a long time but it was b/c i was anxious and only had like 22 straws... (that means i repeated 5 times) 2 coats 5 times
else it would have taken me no time to set up nor take down.. just waiting for the pain to dry takes time

and i found that out the hard way too..
i bought a bunch of straws and am gonna put a clear coat on...

also, about your way of doing it. wouldn't you get excess paint on the tops of the keys and not enough between keys? w/ the straws all sides are open to paint.

sweet paint job on the keys. I've allways wanted to do something like that but havent really got the gumption up to do it. that and the fact that I've torn apart a keyboard before and had a hell of a time rembering where they all whent after they fell on the floor ( I wasnt to happy about that) but now that I've seen it done I think I'll have to tear it apart again. BTW if you really want to give it a sweet look get a el-wire string light kit to install behind the keys, I've done it and it looks awsome plus to gives you a good reason to use your dremmel to rip it up.

i don't know what moreland is talking about, thats a really cool mod! go to www.blingmethod.com there are a lot of mods there that turned out really nice looking, and it's setup in a nice slideshow format for each mod. little preview, check out the one with a plasma ball, the type you touch and all the electricity goes to where your finger is. :dremel: :naughty:

when I did a keyboard mod, I was using an old keyborad also, and I almost crapped my self when I did it. I was taking off the keys and a spider walked out from underneath some of them.l

I screamed, threw the board and did a spazz dance. Then I had to go and find the spider and kill it.

    I HATE SPIDERS

Did you say what Paint you used for the letters?

Also during the prep did you remove the original lettering? I ask because I was wondering if the original letters left a raised area in the finished paint job? It is hard to see in the images…

it's kinda ironic that you're talking about a spaz dance with your avatar...

anyhoo, in my girlfriends basement her dad has literally a 7' stack of computer parts :naughty: she lives out in the sticks, so you might find a spider around a keyboard, but not in one. :eeek:

just heard this one from my dad,
Q: what does Michael Jackson like about twenty six year olds?

I'd like a 7' stack of parts. Its strange, how a spider got under the keys in the first place. I got it from my sister, she said that her system hadn't worked in a while, so I disposed of it for here. :D

I did a similar clean-and-spray-paint on my keyboard. I used a black frame with gold lettering. The letters turned out really well, because what I did was, I used a very light coat. The raised text on the letters is still barely visible when you look for it. However, I would highly recommend figuring out some way to get a thin coat on the top and a thick coat on the sides; some of my sides are not fully coated.

For my procedure, I just put the keys, sections at a time (numpad / qwerty row / f keys / etc) in the box the keyboard came in, and spray painted there. Worked quite well.

Advisory: Some forms of Black Glossy spray paint are EVIL. They take FOREVER to try. After 3 coats of clearcoat (applied over 8 hours later, no less) had completely dried, the paint STILL deformed under pressure. The keys, however, dried completely in ~30 minutes.

character map then copy and pasted, thats how you get the "different" letters or if you know them there is keyboard shortcuts for each letter, like "ò" is Alt then 1 then 6 then 8 then 5, and "¿" is again Alt then 1 then 6 then 8, thats the keybaord short cut but if you want the character map go to start menu then go "All programs" then "Acessories" then "Sytem tools" ad character map is there, and why it shows different on the email i have no idea it does it on mine too, but i think it uses the shortcuts or something i'm not totally sure but does not matter that much as long as my name works in the forums
