    Hey there guys,

I was just at a computer show, and i saw some KVM switches- i was thinking of getting one but none were USB\SVGA.. do you think that there are any KVM switches that i could switch between the PC's and still use one set of mouse\keyboard? or is there any way to mod a lil project box with my own circut? im not to savvy on electronics... but i know how to solder lots of little things, just not how to make the circuts and crap like that. if ya have any cool ideas, let me know. i know there are alot of people on the boards with more than 1 pc and would like a cost effective way to KVM switch the PCs.

    thanks guys. :D

KVM's with VGA and USB do exist. I can't recomend any shops (because your in NY) the big computer stores there should have them, maybe some electronics stores too. They are fairly new though.

As for building your own you'll need to find away to switch between (14*3)+(5*3)+(5*3)=438 pins, all by pushing one button which, although is easy enough, is a hell of alot of work with a big margin for error. I think someone attempted this, search the electronics forum for KVM for more info

what might be an idea is to get a 2 port kvm which will support normal keyboard/vido/mouse ports. Then get a hub which supports usb sharing, i belive belkin make these.

The cheapest for 2 port kvm as far as i have seen is www.ebuyer.com . Not sure who stocks the belkin ones, but check their site www.belkin.co.uk

    Hope that helps :D

Edit: sorry, read your location wrong, may want to try www.belkin.com

drbott.com also has some higher-end USB KVMs.

Granted, they're mac-oriented, but still a good USB KVM, they even have a couple models with DVI.
