Hey guys, I've moved back into my normal home, and the current desk is too small. I've got a corner of the room I can fill out, but trying to find a decent desk is difficult. I want it to flow around the walls (Where I can put the monitor (hopefully 3 in the future) in the corner bit, but just looking for ideas if anyone knows any. I don't really want a really wide desk like the Galant desks from Ikea. So just looking for ideas of good desks for around £150 If you guys have L Shaped desks I'd love to see examples! Thanks (Dimensions don't matter at the moment so much, as it's just for ideas.)
Build it! Couple of nicely cut sections of kitchen worktop and some supporting framework, anchor it to the wall and away you go.
Is there another Galant piece that can attach to the small bit you see on the right side of the picture?
Yes. Galant desks can be expanded on all sides. My Galant is in storage, but they are good desks. Currently I went the kitchen worktop route, and it is awesome.
I just got 3 basic ikea desks (vika amon?) with 12 legs. Works a treat. I have a ushape desk Edit: They changed them... now called Linmonn and legs are Adils Mix what you want.
If you don't want the Ikea look, investigate some secondhand office furniture places - they quite often have corner desks - I have one at home that I took from my office when we closed it down. Works perfectly, although it is probably suffering from not being polished every night
2nd this (as an alternative at least). Professional office furniture is often built to a higher standard than consumer stuff and is sometimes replaced while still in very good condition. If you're lucky enough to find something suitable you can get expensive office furniture for a fraction of what was worth new. My chair and desk were quite a bit cheaper to buy than the Ikea equivalent but would have cost many times more new. Ikea stuff is okay, but you can really feel the difference in quality.
I'd advise looking on eBay before going and buying Ikea desks. I got my Galant worth in the region of £140 new for £20! Obviously you'll need a method of transport though!
I have an L shaped desk. Mine was 35 quid, gumtree. It is a beech sort of colour. My chair was a similar purchase cost less than 20. The only issue with my desk is a bit of wear and slight scratching to the surface. A lot of which is probably caused my me and Mrs bears wedding rings or watches catching the surface. I'd definitely recommend ebay, gumtree or preloved or your local free cycle group before buying new. I love a lot of Ikea stuff but part of me thinks it is damned expensive for what it is. Effectively a chunk of wood (probably MDF) and a few metal legs. Hence I went down the previously used route and I'm more than happy with the result.
I don't doubt it will last but the thrifty bit of my brain says wood shavings+glue+laminate cover+some metal legs does not equal £1xx But to be fair I am tighter than a duck's ar*e. I buy most my stuff on special offers. My tv was a richer sounds clearance, tablet a Tesco boxing day special so I'm not the best person to ask advice from.
