I just bought a 500GB version of these, and have found that it's ridiculously noisy. It appears that the 500GB is the only one that has a fan? I know my 250GB versions do not. Anyone else have one?
I bought an 80gb version (didn't have a fan) and threw in a 500gb drive in without any fan, it ran fine. I'd just disconnect the fan and see what happens. To get into the lacie you need to gently remove the four feet which are stuck on. There are 4 screws hidden beneath.
yeah i was going to call their support first to see if there's a firmware flash, as for something that's supposed to have a "smart fan" it seems to have only one setting, on/loud. even runs with the drive off
