You have pings that high on broadband? My pings for UT2004 are almost all under 100, with most in the 10-20 range.

The router shouldn't be causing that much lag, only a few milliseconds if that. When you are running through the router are there any other systems also utilizing the router?

my college friend told me to try something, which fixed it

i went in the routers firewall settings and mapped ut2004 ports [7777 etc] to go to the correct computer, that cut my pings down to 100

To be honest sounds like you've got a problem somewhere other than your router, unless ur playin transatlantic then 100 seems a little high, your router shouldn't need you to map ports as it should know to send the recieved packets to the computer that originated the request.

All the router does is route the packets to their correct destinations, it shouldn't add any more than a couple of milliseconds to the ping time, in fact you shouldn't even notice it's there. I'd take a look to see if there's anything else running that would take up bandwidth. Are you running a network? If so one of the other machines may be using the internet which would give ya a crappy ping.

i changed the routers 'firewall' setting so instead of mapping it just to my computer it maps to my ip range, and cleaned it up a little. it works fine, and i usually get good pings now
