Ok, good questions Most house's (here) will have several 16A rings... This really depends on your house, u should look at the surge-cabinet ( sp ?) ; My house has different surge cabinets... We have roughly 10 rings that run 16A 2 rings that run 20A the 20A ring, is most likely to be for a oven , so I would just plug out the oven (if not needed at that time) , and plug in a really THICK extension cable... ( a 25A cable ) , and put a big splitter in that.. and some more splitters... Make sure U take splitters that allow 20A... a good splitter will allow 3500W , so that should be sufficient for 7 computers... SO I think u can run abou 7-10 computers on the 20A the other 5 can go on the 16A ... (a normal socket) but use different sockets though... make sure everything is plugged in tightly , and use good splitters/extension cable's... Good luck PS: if you can find out if there are several 16A rings in the room... then use them.. but most likely, its 1 ring for lights , so about 2/3rings for lights around the house and about 1 ring per 1 or 2 rooms .. kitchen will have different rings, same for bathroom good luck, and don't burn down the house... but this will probably not happen... but just in case, keep a couple of fire extinguishers around the room(s) so not just 1 ... let say 3 at least L
I have 4 pcs, 1 tv, 1 video recorder, hi-fi seperates, router, print server and printer all going from 1 room in my place. Now thats asking for trouble.
I once bought a power splitter that had dodgy wiring in the plug (it was only connected by one strand), the plug got really hot, one day i checked it out and I found out that the wire had BURNT INTO the top of the plug. Check your power splitters before using them
i've powered 45 off of one plug socket as well as a 16 port switch however twice someone tripped over the powerleads and yanked it out turning off everysingle computer
how'd you pull that off? at school we killed the power in the cafeteria with 18 on a plug. then we had to send someone for another longass extention cord to get off the circuit.
we've done that couple times at are lans we used to use a scout hut and plug everything into one socket with a cable running acoss the floor waiting to be tripped over and yeah you guesd it someone tripped and nocked out all the pcs lol damn funny but yeah run comps off idfferent circuits use surge protects and a ups would be nice then if someone does pull the big plug your ok
If you are close to the limit... power up the computers individually, as PC's use the most power just as they are powering on (monitors especially). Often if you turn them all on at once, you'll trip the circuit, but if you do them one at a time, it'll be fine.
you could in N-america use the dual phase power from an electric stove or drier. Hack the plug so the ground is common and use the red for one half and the black for the other. each power line is fused at 50A I believe, not the normal fuse type either. so that would mean at least 40 computers (use both the stove and drier). but make sure you have surge protection. Zap will be along in a moment to correct me.
Haha, Brandon... never figured you would make it to the forums... Yeah, this LAN party he speaks of is going to be held in my basement... so you are saying 20-30 computers will not burn down my house? if it does im going to have a field day with some people
You will 90% have a breaker go. But its all right just switch it back. Even if u have long extention cords only run 2 Surges per outlet. And like 1-3 computers a surger u should do fine with only 1 or 2 power outs.
I dont know, i feel kind of uneasy about the whole deal... it makes me cringe to think my brand new house is going to burn down i just moved into this house, and i have moved about 5 times in the last two or so years hehe ... Cavi's Aunt's sister or something owns the North Alabam State Fairgrounds so we might can get a place there ... lol.... But there is no way possible that my house is gonig to get burned down I dont care how many outlets can hold computers... I dont think i want to take the risk... uinless anyone around North alabama wants to donate their house for a little while... i am talking sinceless. dont pay any attention to me
Don't worry... your house isn't going to burn down... in a flat (while I was at uni) we had 10 pc's going at once off 2 circuits (actually, most were on one of the circuits)... we tripped a circuit breaker once, but that's it.
Well... Thats good to know, the only problem now is the 36 hours of pure noise (even headphones dont keep 20 guys (maybe some girls...) quiet) And that going along with my parents will not be very well hehe... p.s. 3x CASE o' BAWLS BABY!!!!!
Just tell u friends to shut it or leave =P That always works for my friends lan parties. Just let then know that you were nice enough to have it at Your house. Trying to keep the noise to a minimum is kinda hard becuase people forget. Just make sure your parents know this before the lan party or their could be problems.
I might get every other person to bring one just incase hehe... edit: Haha if it overloads or the power goes out i have a 40-45 Minute power back up, That automatically saves my crap and shuts down my machine when it has 5 minutes of power left... or something crazy like that gotta love it
