I've got a problem with my netbook charger its a Packard Bell Nav 50 also known as Dot S2

Anyway the issue is , the netbook will only charge when the wire that goes into the port is in one position.

Yesterday the battery went low so i needed to put the charger in, so I put it in, then it charged for about 2 minutes then it stopped charging and switched off after a bit due to battery becoming too low, i re inserted the charger several times tried it on and off but it wouldn't have it. Then i turned the wire itself and it started charging, but the problem is it only charges like that if start moving the laptop about or anything it will move and stop charging.

Either there's a loose wire at the end of the charger or the DC jack inside the laptop has failed.

Could try another charger if you have another compatible one. If the problem persists with a different charger then it's almost certainly the DC jack and that may require soldering to the motherboard to fix if it's not on a cable.

Edit: Your in luck. A quick google has revealed the DC jack is on a cable to no soldering required to replace it, just some disassembly to get to it. Ebay link to a replacement.

Possibly, you won't know until you open it up though. Here's the service manual if you get stuck.

Check it's seated properly if someone replaced the screen.

They might have knocked it putting it back together

the screen seems fine to me, I looked at the manual and I have to pretty much open it completely to get to it, but I think i'll just do it as its quite a problem

Generally if a a wired DC jack is causing a problem it's because one of the wires soldered to it is becoming disconnected. Most of the time it can be reattached with a little patience and solder work.

I tend to strip a little bit of the offending wire so it's simpler to reattach.

Just thought i'd let you know as well, a local guy looked at it, he didn't open it up as i didn't really want to unless we'd get it fixed but he told me to get some solder and we'll fix it he said get some from maplins pound shop, i've not muc idea what the stuff actually looks like, but anyway the guy has a soldering iron so he said he can do it, ive showed him now that the jack is seperate

He still says get the solder then he can fix it

I know the guy himself he's a friend, he's learning, so not like a know it all type
