So, my laptop took a **** just before i finished my new computer. I removed the hard drive and this small adapter piece that was connected to the IDE slot on the hard drive.

Now that i am trying to connect it to my new desktop, the IDE cable does not fit. Do i need one specifically for a laptop HDD?

You need a 40 -> 44 pin IDE cable to use it in a desktop.

    Like so - http://www.mini-box.com/HDD-Cable-Adapter

You could probably find it quite a bit cheaper though, that was just one of the first ones google threw out.

Try eBay or something - they're such a common part there should be loads. :)

Or you can try something like this I have one and have not had any problems out of it and it comes in handy for recovering stuff off of old drives without having to take you system apart. You may be able to find it cheaper though if you look. I notice that you in the U.S. if you have a Fry's there they usually carry them.:thumb:
