Hi all just wanted some advise my laptop i use upstairs so i can watch stuff to fall asleep to and i did used to use it to send files to my Printers and host hard drives on a network is now giving me issues. The battery is dead. It had to be plugged in to even power up.. The fans sound like they are on there way out. It randomly would reboot which wasnt to bad if i was watching a show but for file transfers it was a pain, And the new one is if i press the T key the pc reboots which i guess its shorting something. Its from late 2017 early 2018, i7 with 16gb ram 1tb ssd and 1650 gpu is it worth even getting it looked at or should it just be replaced. Ive got my main laptop setup downstairs that i game on ect. Any advice or is it wortu grabbing a 2nd had machine
The new keyboard reboot thing smells to me like a swelling battery putting pressure on things, though it's usually located under the trackpad. Maybe take the case apart and check? If it's swelling you want rid of it sharpish, as it's a fire risk.
Yep, get that battery checked out ASAP, you could have a spicy pillow in waiting there. https://www.reddit.com/r/spicypillo..._from_himax_battery_what_to_do_and_not_do_if/
Battery is out ans spoken to a local repair guy who just dont think ita worth repairing as he said it be at least £150 then parts.. i found the model was 2017.. I just need to try and get the data off it... not sure how i guess a usb adapter for m.2 drives ?? Now the question is do i just get a replacment laptop from 2021 to watch shows on and not spend to much or replace my gaming laptop thata now 4 years old and runs hot but runs. I really like my MSI GE66 Raider its a good spec pc but only 1080p and for some reason if i connect it to a tv i cant play games it just tanks so i have to sit with it on my lap
For watching media, you could just get a cheap tablet or low spec laptop with a nice screen, or a streaming box for the TV? This can be something that could use streaming from Steam of your desktop or geforce Now perhaps if you have decent home network/internet? rather than getting spendy on a new gaming laptop. I guess when you connect to a TV the resolution is higher than 1080p leading to poor performance?
