Laptop is a sony vaio PCG-315B, the documentation on their site says it supports upto 1024MB of ram, but.. http://www.buzzons.co.uk/temp/laptop_memory.png would seem to think it can only support 512 (64 is going to the video memory) Memtest also only sees 512, as does linux (gentoo and ubuntu) CPUZ shows both DIMM slots occupied with 512MB dimms, and other laptops that I have tested the ram in show 1024MB. If i remove one of the sticks, it drops the memory to 256MB, which ever I remove. Any ideas? (running latest bios from their site too)
bios update? mess around with the amount of memory the video card is using (usually in your bios, under integrated peripherals or similar) try memtest. and, im assuming that even though you tried removing each stick, have you tried each stick in both slots?
memtest actually only shows 512 total which is odd, but then again teh bios only shows 512 total too tried the dimms in other slots with no difference
lol sony support is some of the worst in the world. Don't buy a Vaio and then move countries, they don't support cross region without a lot of extra work by the user. My advice (other than buying something other than a vaio) is to flash the bios
yeah, i tried looking up PCG-315B, and i get like NO results worth anything (other than this thread haha)
