Does anyone know why the internal modem on my laptop is so crap? Sometimes after a couple of failed dials (engaged tone) it says modem not responding and it only connects at 36k? I've got to use this thing for the next couple of days and I would like it to work. Any ideas?

maybe cause its a time laptop and anythin from time is not worth the space it takes up....im sorry but anythin from time is utter crap...on my mates old pc they had glued stuff onto the mobo....

seriously try some drivers for the mobo if possible, but apart from that i doubt theres anythin u can do apart from by a modem for pcmia port or usb....

Time Computers what a joke they are.

Thet build what seams to be a high spec system but the parts they use are cheap and nasty. I have had first had experience of this. As for your modem problems it sounds like the cheap win modems that are knocking around. They are not worth the space and "TimE".

I would just go out and buy a PCMCIA modem and forget the internal one was ever there.

There again that might explain why a bought a Sony Vaio Laptop.

The reason I got this laptop is because I wanted to pay for some of it on 0% finance, and apart from the modem thing the laptop is amazing. It's got a great screen, it's fast, it looks great and its well built. I agree 100% about their desktop systems but I quite like this laptop. I think it is a winmodem, I've got a 56k external modem at work which I can take once we get ADSL installed there.
