Dose any one have any information, or photos of laptop mods? I'm going to be moding my dell inspiron 600m soon to match a case i'll be building my new computer in once i have the money. The main idea of the mod would be to, paint it, make a cut out on the top of the lid, cooling is needed i was thinking vents on the palm rests, and possibly add usb ports. This is a "sketch" of what i had in mind for it. Here is the laptop in original form And this is the case it's gotta look similar too. I need suggestions and circuit help (how to add usbs), i've been wanting to do something with my laptop for a while now.
laptop mod? http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=128750 seems like an interesting mod you have there. not sure about adding usb's tho, you may be stuck using the 2 on the back. oh, and your signature is wrong. its a fx5200
if you got a small enough USB hub (self powered) you could solder a cable from the USB input on it to the usb pins on the mobo, and then mount the hub near the case edge, or use wires and extend the sockets to wherever you can fit them.
Guardian storm, that was the idea i had in mind, possibly adding them on the side of the lid or something like that. 500mph, lol whoops, thanks for informing on the dell you let me borrow.. haha, and the tiny tux looks sweet, can't wait to start work on the laptop this weaken,
Haha, wee good to know my mod is getting "mentioned" As far as adding USB ports, GS's tip really is about the only way to go. I do know they make selfpowered USB hubs small enough to do the job, you just have to look around on where to get them. Only place I ever seen them is in a computer shop in Okinawa (Man i miss that place )
i have one, im gonna bust it open and put them lined up some were. i guess i could solder a wire from the usb hub board to the main board
Look for a 'thumb hub', that should get you started. Otherwise it would essentially take a schematic of the circuit board to get at any unused USB port.
If you just cut those into the back of the case and add a thin piece of plexi you should get enought light from the ccfl's in the lcd to light it up. I think thats the simplest way.
I've changed my mind, I'm changing all the blue to red... and when i get the case for the desk top were cutting the front three slashes out and putting mesh behind it and adding a fan. that will be red, basically every thing i would have done with the blue, will now be red.
the small USB2 hub i mentioned in on eBuyer, com, and i think Scan have them too. don't know about where you might get them in the US.
im just going to fix the 2 on the back for now theres no place to put any more. started work on the paint. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?p=1521107#post1521107 Yea but the way the usbs are alinged on the board it would be hard to put it some were. the one i have now would be perfect im just to lazy to do it.
