    Hi,

I'm at work and my boss asks me to install a couple of things on this laptop and then remove everything that isn't necessary; so I did this - including removing the software for the modem (which we don't use). The laptop runs windows me, it is a Acer Travelmate 201dx and the modem is a lucent technologies soft modem amr. At the moment that is all the information I can find about it.

    Anyway the problem:

It is now stuck on start up saying: "Windows is installing software for your new hardware" - with the modem information just above it. I've been into the bios and disabled everything that I could but its still not working.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Ed

Try booting into safe mode, goto the device, disable the uninstalled device there.

Didn't work...ended up doing system restore in safe mode...duh should have just done that in the first place.
