2 questions here really just wondering if anyone can point out wether this is possible or not. iv just bought a laptop on ebay with a badly damaged screen. it was cheap so its more of a learning project that anything. is it possible to add a larger screen? im not sure if the increased power requirments will mean it wont work or just shorten battery life (i know it will at least do that) is it likely/standard that there is a limiter on the power supply which will stop this from working? im also looking at modding it into a dualscreen monitor (it has a VGA out so will just connect the seconds input with a short cable. and hopefully also run this off the battery too (not sure how im going to do it yet so questions are 1. can i use a larger screen? 2. any idea how to run an additional screen power supply from the battery? my idea is to make a kind of frankinsteins laptop very steampunk ish.
It is not really possible for other reason. First the cable ribbon is design for the specific screen for that specific model. All screen are not the same and determining on the brand of the electronic you might have to get the same recommendation screen. Second the bracket and hinges are made for that particular screen size and housing. Not all hinges are the same. Laptop are not like desktop you can not just Frankenstein screen, keyboard, motherboard without first realizing the type of case (Housing or shell) you have as for battery consumption the back light (ether being cathrode or LED) only require 7 to 12 volt (again determining on the specification of the brand and motherboard) So you can not run a bigger screen internally on your new laptop. But! Your better off if you want to buy a bigger screen is also buying one of this laptop screen to Desktop Monitor and you will need to power it with one of this 12volt, 4amp brick charger/power unit Which jumps to the question about I think dual monitor for your laptop with VGA out. This way you can mod a cool case with dual screen output or make your own station Btw No you can not run it off the battery just like that with out knowing the voltage required and the current (Ampere) You can easily kill your battery or blow a perfectly new screen.
