I have an ole' laptop running windows 98. I checked it out and I can get a GPS unit for it real cheap. I am wondering if i can take the screen off the actual laptop and mount it somewhere in my car. I want the actual laptop under the seat maybe. That way i dont have to see that ugly damn thing just the purdy screen. Is this possible?
i cant see there being any prob with it, as long as your soldering skills are good........take it apart and see......just extend any cables you see there as long as you need them....
Most laptop screens are removeable/replaceable. They are generall connected using flat ribbon connectors and clip into sockets. This ribbons are not extendable you cant cut then allthough you can do a.. laptop ribbon --> socket --> extended by wires --> another socket --> Ribbon on lcd (hard work!) i'll try an find a pic of the type of connectors and ribbon buses i'm talking about. ride
Some examples, couldnt really find any decent closeups, but if you've ever open an electrical device you will recognise these ribbons. Fit in a socket with a clip down holder. ride
eek sounds hard I just wanted to do the same thing with my car and laptop, only more than just GPS, mp3's too hmm Ill take mine apart tonight
Sony make a lot of the ribbons you could probably get a really long compatable one, difficult to track down the right part though! ride
there will be a maximum length unless u shield all the cables this also happens in standard pc monitors so people use vga to bnc and then a bnc to vga convertor (the second one is only used if your monitor dosent have bnc connectors on it) cos bnc is a shielded cable so u dont get as much crosstalk (interferance from the other wires)
