Ok I have a Laptop and a PC that have windows 98 and 98SE installed respectivly. I have been able to get the IR ports to talk to my Nokia 8210 but cannot get them to talk to each other.

I get a link created but don'e know how to transfer stuff. I have tried to set up a direct connection, as instructed in the help section, but I don't have the option to to pick an IR port.

How can I do this? Is there some FREE software that I can use instead?

right from what i know about this looking on my lappie which is a rather old toshiba satellite 300cds it has infra red as a seperate networking protocol so you will need to install this on your desktop as well, then in theory it should act like a network but IR is very very slow so it may be better to use a cheap pcmcia network card & a network card in your pc or are you going for the flashness of beinga able to do it without wires :dude:

if you can get them to link but nothing else it does sort of shout that one of the machines has a problem with the IR protocol, in theory it should be as easy as plonking them in line of site, thought of trying it with someone @ the uni you work @ (im surer there are some flash git students with top of the range laptops that would let you borrow it for a nite, that way you can try to get thet talking to your laptop & try to get it talking to your desktop) did any of that make sense

we should really remane you ir IR pimp melbin

i will have a look into ir transfering as i have a my laptop & a old DOS palmtop with iR i will try to get them talking & report back what i got
