Hi, My mum has just got herself a Toshiba C650-15Z laptop, which has a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. The pad worked fine when new, but after a Windows 7 automatic upgrade it no longer works, although the laptop works fine with a mouse. She's been on the phone to Toshiba, and nobody has come up with a fix other than RTB. So, was the problem Windows-related? Just a coincidence?| Or is it a hardware problem, as Toshiba suspects, and the touchpad is genuinely knackered? It's not my machine, so my knowledge of it is limited, but I did confirm the drivers were up to date. The laptop recognises the touchpad is there, but it just doesn't work. What do you reckon? Cheers, Mike
could be that the driver for the touchpad driver isnt compatible with windows 7. most likely cause! have a look for the touchpad driver on the manufacturers website or give it a google. something like C650-15Z touchpad driver. Edit: found this - http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe....ction=search&teddProduct=5384&selShortMod=993 go to that, put the operating system as windows 7 32/64 bit depending on what you have. then when it says driver type you can search for touchpad driver and it comes up could be the solution! let us know
Most likely a driver issue. My Lenovo laptop sometimes just randomly forgets to launch the touchpad driver when starting windows.
Thanks for your suggestions. I made sure the correct drivers were installed using the Toshiba website. I also checked the properties and saw the option to enable or disable the touch pad, and tinkered with both settings. This seemed to have no effect in real life, but the software did come back with all the right messages. I also tried using the pad with the mouse connected and without. I'm back at my home now, so don't have direct access to the laptop any more. It seems I'm out of options, so maybe return to base is needed after all. Any final thoughts please?
sometimes there's a button which turns it off (fn+ said button). accidentally hit it on my toshiba, rendering the touchpad unusable. spent days trying to fix it by installing new drivers, recalling drivers, opening the POS up and looking for electrical errors. a friend later said, "why don't you just try turning it on again?". as glad as i was that my laptop was working again, i still spent the next few days cursing everything and everybody. one week later i destroyed my toshiba with bad bios.
Fn + F9 from the looks of it. Do any of the Fn + F* keys work? May also be worth downloading the drivers from the Synaptics website.
Quick update - all is now working again as it should. But it took the deletion of the mouse drivers, an update of the BIOS and a reinstallation of the mouse drivers to achieve this! So had Toshiba had their way, the laptop would probably still be stuck in a snowbound warehouse somewhere, awaiting the replacement of the "faulty" touchpad. We're very lucky we're able to fix so many problems ourselves and with the help of this forum.
