Ok now I have a older laptop that I have setup with a bunch of External large harddrives. Its like my main computer for all my files in nice location in my home. I've had this laptop for a few years and I have never had a problem with it. Its a compaq evo n600c. Yes I said it was old . Anyway, for some reason now. When I boot it on. It loads and I can see its working. The actual light for the screen is not showing. I have no idea why. I can look close enough and still kinda see the desktop and move the curser. Its like I'm working in the dark. UGH! Anyone know whats wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks.
backlite of your screen is probably broken, could be some faulty wiring, broken ccfl in the screen or the inverter self thats fried
It could also be that the LCD light is turn off. You know the F button on all laptops, that is used to acess little feature on the screen, look at the F keys and see which one is the laptop light one and give it ago.
95% of the time its the inverter thats had it. If your lucky it'll be a fairly standard delta inverter @ <£20 (or something similar). Changing an inverter is pretty simple, ccfl tubes can be a pain - tho i've seen many many many inverters go, yet i've only ever changed one ccfl (which had been broken by the owner when taking out. The inverter was the actual problem)
open it up and get the inverter out. there should be at least one model like number on it. google for it. you should come up with some places that will sell you some. (they may be expensive) but since you said the laptop i sold you may want to spend the money on a new computer. or you could plug an external monitor into it.
