Im planning to assemble a very large software archive. So I have a few questions.

One, I need to build cheap, redundent system(s):
I have the following hardware for the cause, and can get more in the 95-99 range.
Adaptec AHA-1542CF 50 pin ISA SCSI card
    Numerous IDE controllers
    Hp pavilion 3100 Pentium 133MMX
Unknown (Microtronics main board) system (Probably circa 94-96)
    Gateway 450 (2001, no HDD)
and 2 large SUN machines (of unknown spec)

Plus many others, but those are for other stuff, plus the usual hardware lying around (CD drives, floppy etc.)

    Im wondering what
Operating system to put on them
What kind of storage system (On a low budget (will get hardware from ebay))
    What kind of backup

This is all personal, not for a company.

Also what websites do you know of that, I can get older programs for free legally?
