    Hi guys and gals,

My wife needs to create a large poster (A0 at least) and we're wondering whether there's some decent software specifically for the task.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Adobe Illustrator would be the best option... can work for any paper size :) Not the easiest thing to master, though there are plenty of tutorials and guides available online :)

For the record, I'd rather have recommendations of software people have used, as opposed to people jfgi'ing it for me.

Well I am a heavy user of Illustrator and Photoshop so I can personally vouch for both :) Illustrator would be better for your use however...

Not that easy to use for a beginner though but that would have been my vote too!

The one I suggested has some good reviews, never used anything but CS for this kind of work.

    Thanks everyone.

I had considered Word, since she'll know how to use it, and it can output PDFs, but it has a paper size limit of 22 inches for silly historical reasons. :(

Publisher may indeed be the answer, and she has the NHS licensed version of Office so it'll even be legal!

I'm still happy to hear any other thoughts though :)

Inkscape or gimp would be the best free alternatives to Illustrator and Photoshop, depending if its text and vector based, go with inkscape, if photo is being used as the base with text over it, gimp.

Second for Inkscape. It will cope quite happily with a jpeg background as well - it's only if you need to edit pixels that you will have to run it through GIMP.
