Gone up a bit to £260 roughly, but got some Xmas money plus the £100 cash back is still going so getting it for almost nothing. Will sell the DS210j to cover the costs of the OS and more RAM.

However, I have just seen the new WA7 and my God.....I don't know how long I'll be able to resist pulling the trigger on one of those....

1000$ for a pair of headphones!! :jawdrop:
That's utter madness in my opinion - I would argue that you cannot hear the difference between those and some half the price etc.. What do I know though, I guess? :) (willing to learn the differences, so do tell)..

This is about what my budget stretches to currently:

It comes down to the person, peoples senses are all different, look at perfume samplers, they have to have a talent, and train it for years.

    And.

Excelent choice. Where did you get it? I've heard really good things about those. :D

SMC you are in crazy and mofo. Make my HD598 purchase tiny in comparison.

But I bet Nick is right. And to think you had some common sense. Then again $1000 is like £500 so being a bit over the top still.

What makes it worse is that I already own a $1000 pair of headphones (Beyer T1's) and a $1200 headphone amp/DAC, so it's a roughly £2000 headphone setup. Head-fi has ruined by bank balance :worried:

The only saving grace is that I bought most of it used so it will retain much of its retail value if I ever come to sell it (except the LCD-2's which I had to buy from the US as they are so scarce in the UK).

I've worked my way up through the headphone tiers over the last several years, going from some low end Senns to mid range AKGs to the flagship Beyers and I can honestly say you definitely do notice the difference, otherwise I (and everyone else) wouldn't bother spending so much on this hobby. Unfortunately you also have to spend more on the rest of transit path to get the most out of the high end cans (DACs/amps/cables etc).

I do remember we talked about music quality and headphones.

I do love my 598's. So comfy and audio quality is great. And yes I can hear poor mp3 quality pops and crackles and some of the guitar/bass sounds could be crisper.

Awesome headphones dude, really. Are they just for listening pleasure or do you work in the music industry? I think even the case is worth more than my old Sennheiser HD380s.

Earlier in the week I picked up an ASUS Xonar and some Harman Kardon Soundsticks through HUKD and am REALLY happy with the purchase but they pale in comparison to those cans!

    Booooooooooooooollocks.

The cashback offer I skimmed over a little too quickly, the one that is running is only if you also buy an OS from HP, you get cashback on it too but they are still over priced.

Have just cancelled the orders before they were sent, will just build a system from random parts now I think rather than spend £260 on a Microserver. Glad you put the doubt in my head there, saved me a bit of cash! +rep

Thanks for the explanation. That definitely makes sense. Like any hobby, when you get stuck in to it, it usually starts to cost you more money!
