Picked up an AKG K501 from a second-hand site for €50 (== a bit over 40£ IIRC) to replace my beloved HD 560 Ovation I of which a cup broke off. :(

Looks absolutely perfect, like it's never been used. (which is quite extraordinary I think, since it has to be at least 7 years old).

I've read on the 'webs that these are supposed to be very hard to drive, but to me it sounds loud enough with my integrated audio. Would I gain anything by getting an amplifier? (I know next to nothing about audio gear)
Compared to the HD 560 it does sound a bit "thin" to me, but that could be because I just have to get used to the sound.

Needed some new work boots for sometime to got me a pair of these off of amazon.

Hopefully they will arrive today, four more shifts and my feet are killing me.

In the last week or two I've mainly got stuff for Christmas (most of it yesterday :p)
A Yuki Santoku knife for my mum.
    Some perfume for my sister.
A Sansa Clip+ for my dad.
CPU Wars card game for me.
A couple of PS3 and PC games for my brother.

A new CPU, motherboard, SSD and PSU for the media PC I'm building for the family.

Looking forward to going home :)

you're best bet is to try and borrow an amplifier and see if it improves the sound, before buying one. you typically get your money's worth but the range you can spend within is massive (couple of orders of magnitude). If you've the time to trawl, post and wait for responses, head-fi is invaluable. Be careful in testing though, you ideally want to test with your sources, if you test an amplifier but with audio from a different source to what you'll use you'll have no idea which thing made the difference.

just ordered assault on precinct thirteen and django unchained soundtracks on vinyl.

I've bought all kinds of things over the last couple of weeks, the only thing for me being a pair of brown leather boots (and some keycaps from our good friend Margon).

Oh and I bought myself some orange juice this morning. Yum.

A pile of stuff. Basically I've ordered one of these.

So that I can use my beloved sound card..

And have been doing some light to moderate modding on the PC. The sound card is in and all plumbed in (inc the round IDE cable). So I've ordered some of this.

    And this...

    Wish me luck :D

Remember the thread where I asked for advice on cordless drills a few months ago? Well, I ordered a DeWalt DCK285L2 twin pack at the time. Unfortunately I got all of about 3-4 hours use out of the impact driver before the gearbox ate itself, so obviously the whole thing went back under warranty with a letter and email of complaint, and they've emailed me back to say that they're sending me this in its place:

It's a DCK290M2 twin pack. Slightly better than the 285L2 in that it has a newer, better impact driver and drill, and also has 4Ah batteries instead of 3Ah. Not a bad upgrade for the sake of a few 10 minute emails! Hopefully it'll arrive before Christmas - I could be doing with it to get a few bits and pieces done around the house now that I have some time off work :)
