Santa (in the form of the Fed Ex guy) finally showed up today with my Christmas present.

It's a 10" Traveltek (basically no-name) Android tablet, that unfortunately didn't come with Google Play installed by default so I'm giving up a bit of functionality, but not much.

I figure I'll use it primarily as an e-reader and put it in a waterproof bag to use as a GPS when kayaking, and so far it seems to be able to do both those things reasonably well. Still trying to figure out if I can import custom .kmz files into the android version of GE or not.

I managed to install GE through a third party app installer, and then installed Google Play (through the same installer), but now when i try to use the GPS feature in GE is says I don't have play installed. is this an order of operations thing? Do I need to uninstall GE and then re-install it? The default Google Maps program works fine with the location services, but not GE. Am I missing something here?

You could be missing Google Services.

To ease the hangover of having spent 1700 Euros on a pair of headphones... I quickly bought a tiny DAC/amp to keep it company when listening to music from my Mac or PC. Should sound quite nice when paired with the E11.

My first eye test in three years before Christmas revealed a change in my prescription, which called for some new glasses and lenses. I'm hoping this puts an end to my daily headaches and the Optician is confident that it will.

Frames are Stepper titanium rimless, lenses are AR coated etc. I had my eye on Oakley rimless with smaller oval lenses, but my local Optician isn't a dealer, so I would have had to travel 40+ miles to order and collect them, and they would have been even more expensive than these, travel or not! The new contacts are a relatively new material, still hydrophilic but apparently more advanced than the previous generation. I must say they are very comfortable to wear - I don't even feel them in my eyes!

No advisories for a 12 year old car that's hammered every day, so I don't neglect it that much.

Suspected the pulley was on its way out about 12 months ago but it went silent till the day before my MOT *shakes fist*. The rubber centre failed and I thought I'd lost a bearing :blah: Was proper nasty sounding! Would have done it myself had it not gone in winter / same time as a MOT booked. Cold wet and under a car, no ta.

Ah well here's to another year with the dirty dessy pug 206

Kidmod. Amazingly this came today. I was expecting it to come from China but the postman brought it this morning.

It's chuffing amazing. What I wasn't expecting was the higher model up (the one that sells for £75). I ordered the one in the link up there ^ and was expecting a dual core 1ghz ARM with no 3G, running Jellybean 4.1. The more expensive model is JB 4.2.2 and 1.3ghz with 3G.

I'm not a 3G user so whatever, but I got the higher up model any way.

And it's fast. It seriously rips through everything like butter. The back of the phone is stainless steel, and really makes it feel lovely and weighty. It's absolutely perfect for one handed Kindle reading too.

Now I've heard people in reviews (on Amazon) actually compare this to the Note. Now I've never used a Note but really, I can't really see how the note could be markedly better. Now obviously the note is higher spec, but when it's doing the exact same thing?

Dunno. My lady has fallen in love with mine, so no doubt we'll be ordering her one too. Cases I have no idea about, so I've ordered one of these for 99p and will see if I can mod it or what not.

In orange. Expect a thread about the phone once it's charged (and the footy and darts are finished COYS !)
