    You slag!

I really shouldn't even be thinking of buying a N3DS, but the white one with coloured buttons won't stop talking to me, day and night in my mind. And now you wave this in front of my face!

I've never even seen a 3DS in action, so I'm determined to not buy at least until I've actually tried one.

    Happy Birthday :)

The new stick is an absolute godsend for camera controls. Beyond that, no real differences (speed is all under the hood) - buttons have been shuffled around but that makes no difference. The new 3D tracking is the only other big thing - no longer the problems with trying to stay in the sweet spot.

Thinking about it, all Nintendo's case designs have been orientated this way. Odd.

Yeah, the white with coloured buttons looks pretty awesome, plus the smaller model gets changeable faceplates. I reckon it might be worth having a go on a new model to see what you think.

Gaaaah. The process of initially browsing shops to source replacement burrs and subsequently a minor amount of coffee related discussion has somehow put me in to full upgrade-itis mode.

I've been perfectly satisfied with my espresso for years, suddenly it just won't do. :duh:

Have you got the Intelligentsia app? Its brilliant, and has a timer and measurements function on it. Highly recommended by Chris one of the two owners of the "Department of Coffee and Social Affairs". I also would suggest going and trying those coffee shops.

I've been trying a V60 pourover for my coffee, but I think that french press with a little frothed milk is actually my favorite way to drink coffee.

Sadly I don't think I can advance any further through technique alone :/
I've had the grinder for 9 years and the machine for 8, so have gotten pretty good at compensating for the limitations.

The limiting issue (which I've always been aware of, but learned to live with it because at the time it was at the top of my budget) is the boiler size of my machine (a pre-philips, OPV calibrated Gaggia Classic). Basically the tiny boiler in the machine is entirely unable to maintain a stable temperature throughout the extraction. Whilst a slight drop can be desirable, the drop is pretty severe. Temperature surfing, whilst a little bit of a faff, can remediate to some extent, but is inconsistent - this morning's first attempt was so sour I had to throw it... though maybe I'm just hyper-sensitive to it now I've somehow got my heart set on an E61 machine...

A PID mod helps with consistency, but not the drop. A few have suggested that adding a thermoblock or coil coupled to the boiler just before the inlet, to pre-heat the water, would lead to a very stable shot, but then we get to a point when we're talking pretty invasive mods to what's a starter machine, and maybe time to bit the bullet and dive in to the pro-sumer pool.

A suction control valve. Small, expensive and essential to the continued mobility of my car.

A bitch to get to though, its bolted to the fuel pump which is on the back of the engine block. I had to remove the windscreen wipers, wiper assembly and drip tray under the wipers just to see it. I then had to lie on top of the engine and manoeuvre my giant hands and a very small Allen key into a ridiculous jungle of sharp things and rigid diesel pipes.

Made my car work again though, and DIY saved me £250 which was nice.

If only tyres were a DIYable thing I'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

I assumed that was what the plasters were for.
