    Well I did have Dewalt a few years back in the ni-cad range and it was a hard working drill. Then got a Hitachi drill/driver in a bank holiday sale at BnQ which was a lithium battery, two of but only 1.5ha.

    Dad has a couple older Makita tools so my reasoning for going in there direction was to extend the pool of batteries we have and having used them on a few odd jobs I've always been impressed.

    I'm no tradesman by any means but I enjoy doing DIY type work and enjoy having a new toy to play with just as much lol

    And just so I don't come over as a tool collector of sorts, I also got myself some new slip on smart shoes from Next as the girlfriend informs me my last pair are 'past their best' (think she was letting me down gently lol) and grabbed a FireTV Stick although once I get Kodi running on it, it will live downstairs on TV in living room for mum will see more use from it than me :p

    The first time I saw someone chopping and changing their modular drill/driver I nearly wet myself with excitement, until I went online and nearly wet myself at the sticker price.

    The big problem is there's no best brand for everything, in my experience...
    Jigsaw = Bosch
    Site Saw = DeWalt
    Drill = Makita
    Router = Elu
    Grinder = Makita
    Sabre = Bosch
    Nailer = Paslode
    Multi cutter = not used one yet, sparkie friend uses Bosch
    Rip Snorter = Bosch or DeWalt

    True that, although I think much of it boils down to whatever you happen to buy first. All the decent brands are good, but it definitely helps to stick with what you already have once you go with cordless tools. Being able to swap around batteries easily is just so convenient. I'm amazed by how much time you get with one of those 4Ah XR batteries even on a demanding tool like the circular saw.

    Also, this arrived today:

    Kurtz Ersa iCon Nano 80W soldering station. Should make light work of any of my soldering needs for quite a while. I was beginning to get very fed up of my crappy 18W Antex pencil, couldn't solder squat.

    from experience with a leatherman wave. Please be careful of the main blade, it is very sharp and easy to cut yourself on.

    I shall thank you for the warning.

    I Have some experience with leathermans as my dad has had the same one for years and he keeps that pretty darn sharp. I will definitely keep my head on a swivel and no doubt at some point it will get me.

    I always used to get a nip when trying to close mine. Got so frustrated with it in the end and now use a dedicated sheathed knife rather than a folding/locking one.

    I dont know the point to having knifes anymore. you will get ****ed if you get searched.
    No point having one if you dont carry it. I have a nice little knife but does not leave my house :/

    They're fairly essential for many outdoor pursuits. Carrying around a Leatherman or Swiss army knife whilst hiking for instance won't garner any odd looks, in fact it's encouraged in case you get into difficulties. On the other hand, walking with one down the high street? Yeah that's not a good idea.

    I had a Leatherman a few years back, had never ending troubles with it. I found the blades/tools just didn't want to lock up properly, received a number of cuts and grazes from it as a result. It also blunted very quickly, it was a real one btw, not one of the many knock-offs that float about. For fungi hunting I now use a proper mushroom knife instead now, just makes things easier than these jack of all trades types. Multi-tools do work better for general outdoors activities though.

    £1500 for my van this year, and that's not likely to drop next year since I'm removing the limiter during the summer and racking up quite a few more miles than the estimate stated.

    I'm sorry but how will you "get f**ked" if you get searched and the police find a legal to carry knife? Well dare any cop attempt to prosecute me for carrying my EDCs (usually a Spyderco UKPK or Squeak). The rest of my knives which are not legal to carry are just for use around the house and workshop.

    I've not paid that much since I had my first car.

    How many miles do you do a year to get that kind of quote?!
